Senior Geologist
Explores and charts stratigraphic arrangement and structure of earth to locate gas and oil deposits by performing the following duties. Specifically, the primary role of the Geologist will be to take a long-term perspective for the purpose of planning, implementing and directing the exploitation efforts in the wood for Shale, and any new areas added in the future.
Analyze and evaluate available geological data in order to recommend prospective areas for leasing, geophysical programs, wildcat and development drilling, and possible property acquisitions designed to discover and develop profitable hydrocarbon deposits.
Prepare and maintain regional and field maps, cross sections, etc.
Supervise wellsite evaluation operations and exploratory
Recommends acquisition, retention, or release of property leases or contracts.
Prepare for and testify at government hearings for approval of new wells and recompletions.
Utilize subsurface and geophysical data to support recommendations for drilling.
Identify new play concepts, new play fairways and prospects using all available data.
Evaluate complex data sets, seismic and well log data for hydrocarbon potential to identify areas for exploration/development.
Estimates oil reserves in proven or prospective fields, and consults with Petroleum Engineers concerning drilling and production methods.
Directs drilling of exploratory wells. Participate in peer-based risk and resource estimation process.
Ensure open and timely communication on well developments to managers and other departments.
Education and/or Experience
Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations,
and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution,
determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Database software; Internet software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word
Processing software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certified Petroleum Geologist (CPG)
Other Qualifications
Minimum 10-15 years experience required.
Prior experience in working Oklahoma and unconventional formations preferred, but not required.
