The Davey Tree Expert Company is the North American leader in tree care, utility line clearance, commercial landscape services, and urban forestry / natural resource consulting with operations throughout the US and Canada. Davey is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Manager of Technical Services.  This leadership position is within the Davey Institute, which is responsible for technical services, research and development, environmental programs, and  education and training for North American operations.

 

Daveys’ technical advisors and scientists guide field service teams in diagnosing and prescribing the best products, application procedures, and pest and disease cultural practices to be used at the customer site. Each Davey scientist is an expert in a particular aspect of plant care and a specific geographic region. Our experts, have advanced degrees in fields such as entomology, horticulture, urban forestry, forestry, turf, agronomy, plant pathology, plant physiology, computer science and botany, train our technicians and serve as resources to address the specific needs of our customers and operations.

 

Field teams have intranet access to our multimedia reference materials, including detailed photos, videos, and databases to properly diagnose a customer’s lawn or tree care issues.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

· Assume responsibility for the direction and management of all activities and personnel of the Technical Services Department of the Davey Institute

· Develop and implement strategic direction and  priorities for the Technical Services Department

· Assist in establishing Research & Development priorities; engage in R&D activities

· Manage, assess, monitor, and develop all Technical Representatives

·  Develop and monitor goals and objectives of all Technical Representatives; align individual goals with Department, Institute, and Corporate goals and objectives

· Anticipate and develop new technical programs and solutions based on operational needs.

· Travel to regional technical advisor offices and Davey territories required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

· Preferred candidates will have  a MS or Ph.D. in a horticultural science or related field and/or combination of horticultural extension, field and facility technical expertise and management

· Excellent communication skills (writing, speaking, representing Davey internally and externally).

· Capacity to integrate Technical Services within Davey Operations and other corporate support departments.

· Ability to strategically assess existing programs and anticipate needs from trends in the industry.

· Strong computer and organizational skills.

· The successful candidate will be one with relevant expertise within the industry and demonstrated managerial and leadership skills.
