Environmental Technician
Environmental technician must be able to identify and create strategies to manage environmental concerns. Experience should acknowledge the political, social, legal and economic aspects of issues as well as those pertaining to science and technology. They are expected to act as agents of change within the organization.
Responsibilities
Environmental Project Managementdeveloping environmental strategies for assigned projects; assist in the implementation of environmental policies and practices; coordinating all aspects of resource use, pollution reduction, waste management, environmental health, risk assessment and employee involvement; ensuring compliance with environmental legislation; developing pollution control, pollution prevention and recycling programs; auditing and reporting on environmental performance to internal clients; identifying, assessing and reducing an organization’s environmental risks and financial costs; keeping abreast of environmental legislation and good practice; raising awareness of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility; managing the development and implementation of an environmental management system; bidding for and managing the budget of an organization’s environmental strategy; coordinating public hearings and consultations on environmental matters; directing public relations activities, communications and education plans involving environmental issues; training staff at all levels in environmental issues and responsibilities; participating in environmental education and research; negotiating environmental service agreements and managing associated costs and revenues; writing environmental reports; leading on corporate social responsibility issues and action; maintaining regular contact with regulatory bodies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); coordinate environmental management with other regulatory responsibilities, such as quality and safety.
Data Management and Recordkeeping
· Utilize computerized system to manage and maintain project files
· Maintain diary system and up-to-date files for all assigned projects Qualifications
· Must possess an ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Excellent administrative and organizational skills
· Computer skills in Windows environment, working knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and on-line claims database systems
· Requires a highly motivated self-starter willing to be “on call” 24/7 on a rotational basis
· Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and courtesy in interactions with internal and external customers
· Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects is essential
