The Location You will work on-site at Phoenix International's New Product Introduction Center, which is nestled in North Dakota State University's Research and Technology Park in Fargo. The technology park, which houses more than a dozen groups, is a place for university research and industry to leverage and combine their strengths in pursuit of new technologies and advanced applications. location information The Position A CMM Level 3 ranked company, Phoenix International is looking for Electronic Hardware Design Engineers with a range of mid career to senior experience.As an Electronic Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment, which includes embedded micro controllers, sensors and displays to be used in rugged vehicle environments. Determining design approaches and parameters. Selecting components based on analysis of specifications and reliability, performing detailed worse case design analysis, simulation and schematic creation. Operating in a team environment and may act as lead person, providing technical leadership and design solutions. You may review, coordinate and assign portions of the work to other engineers and support personnel. Provide technical consultation and a knowledge base. Follow schedules that are already established by superior personnel. In this position, you will also: Design new products and/or develops existing products (embedded microcontroller based designs) that meet customer required features and functions, have minimum labor and material costs, and meet established reliability and quality requirements. This is accomplished by implementing standard design techniques and devising new approaches to achieve the desired results. Work closely with other project team members as needed to ensure the final combined product has compatible software, electronic hardware, and mechanical hardware which functions properly together and performs at levels specified in the product specifications. This includes failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), support of printed circuit board (PCB) layout, prototype build and verification activities. Work with Manufacturing Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Quality Assurance on Cross-Functional Teams as needed to optimize designs for cost, quality, and manufacturability. Work with other engineering personnel to establish design parameters and ensure electronic designs comply with Product Specifications including harsh electrical and environmental conditions. Maintain design documentation for each design in a neat and organized fashion for review by other engineering personnel. Review the design calculations of others to ensure proper application of design techniques. Work with Manufacturing Engineering and outside suppliers as needed to identify and rectify manufacturing, component or assembly problems. Review designs to ensure manufacturing considerations are taken into account. Analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests and evaluate results. Including electromagnetic compliance (EMC), electromagnetic immunity (EMI), highly accelerated life test (HALT) as well as various electrical & environmental tests. Education Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required. Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience is desired. Required Skills & Experience Knowledge and exposure to software design. 2+ years of commercial design experience in an Engineering field related to electronic equipment and electronic hardware systems. Significant experience in the design of embedded controls and display systems. Significant experience and knowledge of testing, manufacturing, quality control and marketing requirements. Experience with engineering tools (i.e. electronic simulation), systems and databases.
