Weight & Mass Properties Engineer 4 Position Description Use team processes, methods and innovation to analyze weight and balance characteristics of rotary wing aircraft systems architectures and designs. Responsibility for multiple design areas requires the desire to learn about multiple airplane systems. Establishes target weights for designs prior to design release and determines current weight of the design throughout the design and build cycles. Proactively provides design, analysis, and manufacturing guidance from a weight perspective to design teams. Provide effective leadership in team meetings and trade studies to ensure designs are weight efficient, while meeting all design requirements. Clearly document and effectively present weight and balance characteristics to Program Management and team personnel. Develop working relationships with peers and experts internal and external to The Boeing Company. Continuously assess and improve Weight Engineering estimation tools and processes. Specific job tasks include: analyzing weight and balance characteristics of a given design (configuration memo, trade study proposal, weight reduction idea, etc.), soliciting and proposing weight reduction ideas, managing weight reduction trade studies, building and presenting team visibility charts that accurately depict the forecast weight as well as the weight risks and opportunities, providing clear written documentation of weight changes. Able to build and manipulate complex data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files). [ + ] Design / Produce Process Extensive, specialized knowledge of Boeing design, production, and build processes (e.g., maintenance access solid, dependability cost model, produceability trade offs) to effectively influence product design. [ + ] Interpret Engr Data Extensive, specialized knowledge of engineering data (e.g., blueprints, data sets, specifications, logic diagrams, electrical circuit schematics) to interpret, analyze, and develop data for support requirements. [ + ] Project Leadership Extensive and specialized ability to direct, delegate, and ensure performance of assigned responsibilities and tasks as a project team leader in support of the overall large scale and complex projects. Extensive and specialized ability to identify and resolve project related issues and provide solutions and/or recommendations to ensure the successful completion of the project. Education and/or Experience Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information This requisition is CONTINGENT upon the award of the CSAR-X Program to the Boeing Company and the rejection of any subsequent contract award protest.
