Visual Basic .NET Developer

The Systems Engineering Group (SEG) of QinetiQ North America provides high-value engineering, software solutions, logistics information management, flight training and IT technical support services to the U.S. Department of Defense, allied governments and select commercial partners.

It is anticipated that at least 80% of employee's work time will be devoted to professional duties. The prospective programmer must be able to work in a team environment. As a programmer and analyst, use Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft VB.NET, SQL Server 2005, Microsoft Word, Crystal Reports, Robohelp, Source Safe, Infragistics, DynaZip, and other programming, and database management tools for data management and programming to provide programmatic, logistical, and technical support of Army STAMIS programs, Army approved systems or other applications as assigned. Programmer must have working knowledge of W3C compliant XML files, structures, and processes. Experience in object oriented design is desirable.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Perform detailed and complex studies and calculations.* Analyze database design.* Interpret written or oral descriptions of program functionality.* Communicate program design decisions in a written format.* Develop new software programs to support new mission requirements.* Maintain existing software modules and programs.* Provide computer and software support to users.* Support design and development of applications.* Develop and maintain reports.* Integrate modules and packages.* Support customer fielding of applications.* Develop and maintain documentation in accordance with specified published standards.* Mentor less experienced programmers.* Participate in peer reviews and other group discussions.* Travel to software or test sites will be required.* Other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation and/or Experience: * B.S. or B.A. degree required in related technical field. B.S. Computer Science preferred.Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge and experience in the use of the programming tools cited in position summary.? Thorough knowledge of programming language practices and structure? Knowledge of project management principles.? Knowledge of database design and structure.? Knowledge of personal computer operating systems such as Windows XP.? Basic knowledge of personal computer architecture.? Ability to translate written or oral instructions into program source code.? Proven ability to use a programming interface development environment such as Visual Basic 6.0 or Visual Basic .NET.? Ability to understand flow diagrams and entity relationship diagrams.? Ability to interpret design documents such as entity relationship diagrams.? Ability to write clear, concise thoughts, and to develop ideas in a written format.? Able to perform work related travel approximately 10-20% of year.? Able to stand for prolonged periods (1 hour or more) when at field sites.? Able to interface with non-programming personnel.
