This position is located in our VA, Chantilly facilityThe project goal is to improve data-driven decision-making within the Agency by providing executives and other decision-makers with information needed to monitor and analyze the performance of the organization. The information is assimilated from various sources across the Agency and made available via a web-based tool. The project is designed to support the decision-making process by delivering the basic input to executive decision-making - - usable and relevant information. The project has customers at all levels of the organization. The project also provides groups across the Agency with access to our shared reporting environment, within which they can develop their own reports. Job Description: seeking a System Administrator to assist in managing their reporting system, specifically assisting with building and maintaining the reporting environment within which report development is done by the team and customers. Roles and responsibilities include: Working with customers across the Agency to understand data requirements for their reporting. Working with database administrators of source systems to understand the logic for the databases, which the users need to build custom reports. Implementing the database logic in the metadata tool used to manage the reporting environment. Writing queries to extract the data. Preparing documentation of any new procedures implemented. Resolving customer problems, which may be received via the help line, Lotus Notes, or face-to-face meetings. Troubleshooting report performance problems. Maintenance and administration of the system, to include server management and report deployment. Being a team player, demonstrating flexibility and working with minimal supervision. Assisting the project team by participating in the design, development, integration and maintenance activities involved in a major software upgrade that is currently underway. MANDATORY SKILLS: Strong application development skills in at least one of the following areas: Query tools such as Cognos, SQL, Forest and Trees, or QMF, Database design and development or database administration using a relational DBMS platform such as Sybase, DB2, or preferably Oracle. Web-based applications. Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills, Ability to work well with people of various backgrounds (customer, staff, contractors, technical), Ability to work within a team environment. Demonstrated ability to adjust to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Familiarity with Cognos software implementation. Requires BS/BA degree.
