Career Level: Experienced (Non-Manager) Reference Code: S08-8955 Technical Staff RF Engineer General Dynamics C4 Systems' National Systems Division (NSD) provides its government and commercial customers around the globe with integrated network and communication solutions for mission critical applications including satellite communication, satellite operations, network systems and information services, blue force tracking, homeland security, detection, surveillance, intelligence, and emergency response.General Dynamics seeks a highly experienced, senior RF Engineer to provide technical leadership in the detailed design and deployment of a digital VHF basestation radio system. This engineer will design an approach of interworking VHF radios with an existing VHF/UHF infrastructure, and support planning of new radio sites, including detailed coverage and link performance modeling of existing and new sites. This engineer's responsibilities will include: technology planning; developing technical baselines, RF link budgets, and providing ROM cost and schedule estimates for proposed RF projects; ensuring RF requirements are implementable; leading the detailed design and coverage activities; verifying the RF design satisfies requirements; mentoring less senior engineers in the application of advanced technologies, coverage modeling, techniques and processes. BSEE (preferably MSEE) with a minimum of 10 years wireless communication systems engineering experience. Familiarity and experience with one or more of the following areas is required: radio network design & deployment, RF coverage analysis/modeling, antenna design, EMI/intermod analysis, RF filtering design/products and their function (filter types, isolators, duplexers). Must possess a thorough understanding of VHF/UHF radio propagation and have experience with coverage/intermod modeling (using the ITM (Irregular Terrain Model) and other models). The candidate must have experience with standard system engineering methodologies, processes, and tools.Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
