Job Description:
Leads/supervises sales and property tax compliance, customer service, reconciliation process and helps maintain Vertex compliance system. Provides technical support and develops applications to support operations. Responsible for the preparation of sales, use, and property tax returns of all types. Prepares tax accounting analyses and provides tax accounting support. Position reports directly to the Sales, Use, and Property Tax Senior Manager.
 
The essential functions include, but are not limited to: 
- Interpret sales, use and property tax codes, regulations, court cases and monitor legislation in states where the company has operations.
- Oversee processes that ensure sales/use and property taxes are properly assessed, reported and remitted including reviews of use tax accruals on procurement activity to ensure compliance and tax minimization.
- Supervises other employees and/or external service providers as needed.
- Prepares technical correspondence and memoranda required by management, external auditors, and regulatory agencies.
- Provides training to other departments within the organization to ensure the proper reporting through the Vertex software system and compliance with sales and use tax laws.
- Manages Vertex sales and use tax O Series software to ensure internal compliance primarily in the use tax accrual as it applies to procurement activities.
- Trains and cross-trains with other associates regarding various basic to complex state and local transactional and property tax accounting and compliance responsibilities.
- May require some travel and occasional overtime.
- Identifies opportunities to improve Tax Department efficiency and implements selected solutions. 
- Assists and/or leads special projects and performs other duties as assigned. 
- Acts as back up for the Sales, Use, and Property Tax Senior Manager.
 

Basic qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in accounting.

- 10 years professional experience.

- Experience with state sales and property tax laws including strong research skills.

- Experience working in a high volume transactional environment.

- Experience working with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.

 

Preferred qualifications:

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

- Experience working as a team lead or supervisor.

- Experience with RIA Thomson (RIA), Commerce Clearing House (CCH), or other tax research software.

- Vertex sales and use tax software.

- SAP or other enterprise software.

- Verbal and written communication skills.

- Organizational skills.
