System/Software Engineer Description:Description:Overall purpose/objective of this position is to provide software engineering and analysis support for the design and development of various aspects and components of DoD tactical and information technology systems to include but not limited to software development in real-time environments.Duties:- Requirements definition, design, development, and/or analysis and evaluation of systems and software for DoD sensors, combat/control systems, data and information communications and management systems.- Modeling & simulation to explore approaches and analyze risks for modern Navy and Missile Defense Agency systems.- Computer and network technology exploration, evaluation and prototyping to meet customer's current and potential needs.- Test and/or evaluation of APL or contractor-developed tactical DoD systems at APL and/or field test sites. Some travel may be required.- Engineering level documentation including memoranda of work performed, concept papers, proposals, white papers, briefings, etc.Qualifications:Required:BS in Computer Engineering, CS, EE, or Physics. Ability and strong desire to apply software and/or system engineering techniques to complex, team-oriented problems. Desire to learn. Knowledge of Unix/Linux and C/C++ and/or Java highly desirable. Ability to apply logical thinking and analytical methods to solve problems as well as a tenacious attitude to work through problems to a solution. Able to work independently.Desired:MS in Computer Engineering, CS, EE, or Physics. Knowledge of software engineering techniques and tools such as UML, Rhapsody, Rational Rose, as well as modeling and simulation tools such as Matlab are highly desirable. Strong interest and curiosity toward new technologies is particularly important. Adept at written and oral communications. Familiarity with real-time programming and/or real-time operating systems (e.g. vxWorks, Lynx O/S, Unix threads, Java threads) is a definite plus.
