Location: Northern/Huntsville, AL Job Category: IT/Software Development Career Level: Experienced (Non-Manager) Reference Code: S08-9019 Staff Software Systems Engineer General Dynamics C4 Systems designs, develops, and integrates highly sophisticated command, control, and communications systems for the U.S. military, federal agencies, civil governments and related international customers. These state-of-the-art systems combine advanced imagery software and multi-sensor integration to provide real-time situational awareness to tactical decision makers. Our systems transform large amounts of complex data into useful information that is clearly and intuitively presented to the operators, enabling commanders make informed decisions in real-time. We build systems for a wide range of global missions including wartime battlefield management, crisis management, peace keeping and contingency operations, drug intervention, and public safety.BS Degree in software engineering +9 years of demonstrated results, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree recommended.Participate in various phases of system design for the development of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and functional enhancements and component design. Candidate will participate as an active member of a project team and accept direction and mentorship from senior team members. Candidate will perform stakeholder analysis, development of architectural concept models, trade studies, identification of key performance parameters (KPP), Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products. Researches, designs, and develops computer software systems, in conjunction with hardware product development, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.Designs, develops, operates, maintains, and documents software to be applied to engineering, scientific, and manufacturing requirements. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products..Active in continuous learning. Mentors multiple members of the team.Lead technological and team efficiency problems. Develops team solutions with little oversight. Leads the exploration of business concepts in area of expertise.Demonstrates Leadership as follows: Applies existing technology to create new opportunities for the business and the team. Demonstrates ingenuity in creating opportunity in the face of risk. Breaks down barriers to progress and motivates junior members of the team to action.Extended contact with senior levels within other engineering depts. Required to work with other functional areas. Occasional contact with senior management both internal and external. Routine contact/travel to customers and vendors. Occasional contact with business development functions. Aware of other's capabilities and able to leverage them in a team environment. Effectively bridges functional boundaries through listening to and comprehending co concerns of both technical and management communities.BS Degree in software engineering +9 years of demonstrated results, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree recommended.Successful candidates will be familiar with the following tools and languages or their equivalents: SOA, Web Services, Telelogic DOORs, Rational Rose, Rational Requisite Pro, Enterprise Architect, Rational Clear Case, Rational Clear Quest, Clear DDTS, UML design. Familiarity with the following languages and protocols is a plus: Windows, UNIX, Linux, UML design, C, C++, C#, Java, XML, SOAP and .NET. Experience in the following areas is a plus: Airspace Command and Control, Air Defense, and Future Combat Systems.Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
