Sr Systems Engineer I - IPv6 Network Engineer

Work Location is Chantilly, VA or Annapolis Junction, MD OVERVIEW: The Intelligence Community Enterprise Solutions (ICES) Systems/Network Engineer will work as part of the Intelligence Community IPv6 Registry office. This office will be the lead for IPv6 address assignment and allocation to the Intelligence Community agencies. The successful candidate must project a professional demeanor, utilizing oral and written communication skills of the highest quality. Interpersonal skills are extremely important as this position requires working with a senior professional staff, high-level government leadership within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), and mid- to high-level government leadership within the Intelligence Community (IC) agencies. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, flexible, and willing to take the initiative on tasks supporting the ICES leadership. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Sr Systems Engineer I will be responsible for setting up the IC IPv6 Registry office. The candidate will need to work with the IC agencies to help establish the Agency Registration Offices (AROs) within each agency. This will entail creating the necessary guidelines, procedures, and roles and properly documenting the process. The candidate will need to setup the correct process for allocating IPv6 addresses to AROs based on best practices. The DoD-IC IPv6 collaboration team is currently developing the IC IPv6 address and address management plan. The candidate will help with the finalization of the document. The candidate will also be an active participant in the DoD-IC IPv6 collaboration team. The candidate will be responsible for sending requests and justifications for address space to the DoD NIC, and reallocating that address space to IC registries according to network classification levels. The candidate will compile usage and aggregation reports from IC registries, for relay to the DoD NIC without reference to end users. The candidate will work with the DoD NIC to determine the actual procedures for these activities and the nature and frequency of the reports since this will be a new activity. The candidate will also perform a network registry function for all three fabrics (unclassified, secret/collateral, and SCI). The candidate will re-allocate IPv6 address space at each separate classification level for use on IC-sponsored computer networks, for use on SCI networks, and for IC members on non-DoD networks. The candidate will also receive back reports on IPv6 address space usage efficiency and aggregation. The candidate will receive and accept any unused IPv6 address space that the agencies wish to return, and reallocate as appropriate. The candidate will either need to know or be able to learn how to use BT Diamond IP's IPControl and NetControl. The candidate will participate in the IPv6 DNS working group. The candidate should have a good understanding of DNS and be a contributor on developing DNS standards and DNS best practices for IPv6. Basic Qualifications - Required Experience, Skills: - BA/BS degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience, plus 4 or more years of applicable work experience. - Minimum 4 years experience as a technical contributor with local and wide area networking, communications, and related hardware/software such as bridges, gateways, routers, multiplexes and hubs. - Minimum 4 years experience managing and/or administer assignment, allocation, redistribution of Internet Protocol address space. - Minimum 1 year experience with Internet Protocol version 6 (IPV6) - Candidate must be proficient at assigning, verifying, and validating IC agency IP addresses, and troubleshooting and resolving complex problems to ensure no disruption of mission-critical applications. - US Citizenship required - Requires a current and active Top Secret SCI SSBI security clearance Desired Experience, Skills, Knowledge: - Working knowledge of testing protocols, developing test plans, and reports - Experience with managing or having been involved in an IPv4 to IPv6 transition Company & Benefit Information: Raytheon Company, with 2007 sales of $21.3 billion, is a technology leader specializing in defense, homeland security, and other government markets throughout the world.
