SR. PROJECT  ENGINEER

Specific Work Duties/Essential Functions:

The Project Engineer has responsibility from proposal development to certification for aircraft fire detection systems.

Will lead ateam of engineers from requirements generation through detailed design, system analysis, verification, validation acertification.

Responsible as the primary point of technical contact with the customer, coordinating technical discussion, leading design reviews,developing and updating schedules,and managing to budget.

Works closely with supporting engineers insystems, hardware and software design, V&V, and other specialties to systems. Researches and carries out the most complexm or innovative engineering assignments requiring the development of new or improved methods, techniques and procedures.

Contributes to and has responsibility for completion of significant special assignments with broad product, technologyinvestment and integration, customer and strategic impact. Projects include new systems as well as design upda tes & qualifications to eliminate obsolete parts. Define system and component level requirements for fire detection systems. Idealapplicant is required to have strong background in embedded systems with an emphasis on hardware design.

Experience with ARINC 429, ARINC 629, CAN, and AFDX buses preferred. Strong understanding of DO-254 and DO-178B developmentprocesses is required. Experience in qualification to DO-160 and MIL-STDs required.

Background using DOORS for  requirements management preferred. Perform various analyses in support of detailed design of components, major assemblies, software and systems.

Provide architecture definition based on required functionality, safety (FHA, FMEA, FaultTree), and compliance with certification regulations (FAR/JAR Part 25). Perform other related duties as assigned.

Academic Requirements:

BS in Electronic or Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline. MS/PhD. preferred.

Specific Skills and/or Experience Requirements:

15 or more years of related experience preferred. Candidate should have some experience in Project Management (schedules & budgeting). Ability to manage major subcontracts preferred. Interface with customers, team members, and suppliers. Some travel (domestic and international) is required. Preferred applicant is required to have extensive experience with commercial and military airborne systems. Strong presentation skills and the ability to work with customers and suppliers in defining system level, and component level requirements for Fire Detection Systems. Desired applicant should have strong written and interpersonal skills. The position reports to the Chief System Engineer.
