Sr Principal Systems Engineer - Navigation Systems
Generally, a Senior Principal Systems Engineer in the area of Navigation Analysis will exhibit an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness in weapon system applications, with particular emphasis on Guidance, Navigation, and Control analysis and specific expertise in navigation analysis. The engineer will apply and/or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts, and will be viewed within the business segment as an expert within the field of navigation engineering. The Engineer will develop information that extends knowledge in navigation analysis and navigation system applications. This information may form the basis of newly developed concepts, theories, and products. The Engineer will often act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs. The Engineer will plan R&D programs and recommend technological application programs to accomplish long-range objectives. The Engineer's work must be effective for near term program requirements as well as typically require a longer term, or strategic perspective. The Engineer will design research and develop highly advanced new navigation system applications and analyses resulting in new product/business opportunities for the company. Erroneous decisions or recommendations could have a long-term negative effect on the Product Center, GNC Center, Missile Systems Business Unit, and Raytheon's reputation and business posture. The Engineer will serve as consultant to top corporate and business segment management in long-range company planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements in navigation systems. The Engineer may be a prime spokesperson on the company's navigation technical capabilities and future directions. The Engineer will often be instrumental in attracting and obtaining major new company business. More specifically, a Senior Principal Systems Engineer for GNC and the Product Center will provide project / program management and/or technology leadership for multiple missile programs in their functional area of responsibilities. Specific job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, navigation and GNC system analysis, formulation of business capture strategy and supplier teaming concepts, proposal support or volume leadership, requirements definition, modeling and simulation, hardware and algorithm design, hardware integration, test and verification, missile system and flight test support, and supplier coordination. In addition, the individual will be expected to provide counsel and mentoring for more junior members of the Department and the Product Center, and to participate in or lead senior level technology and peer reviews within the Department. Particular program activities may include, but will not be limited to, navigation and GEU applications for missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, guided projectiles, and hypersonic vehicles. As such, the individual will lead efforts in the development, analysis, and improvement of state of the art navigation system technologies. Security Clearance: Secret. At a minimum, an Interim Secret clearance will be required in order to start work. Positions at Raytheon may require U.S. citizenship for purposes of obtaining clearances. Additional clearances may also be required from the DoD. Required Skills: Broad experience in navigation analysis and Guidance, Navigation and Control engineering, including academic and/or professional experience in system modeling is required, along with a familiarity of navigation hardware design, or integration, test and verification. Familiarity with GPS/INS navigation systems and Kalman filtering are required. In addition, the applicant should be able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills and the ability to function in a team environment. The applicant should also have an enthusiasm for the technology and the initiative and desire to pursue new and difficult challenges, as well as demonstrated successful team and/or program leadership activities. Desired Skills: Demonstrated breadth in the various disciplines of navigation system development, including system analysis, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and extensive integration, test and verification experience is desired.
