Airbus North America Engineering in Wichita, Kansas is currently seeking candidates for a Sr. Engineer – Fatigue and Damage Tolerance position.  This position supports the development of aircraft structures as a fatigue and damage tolerance analyst. Duties include performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis for both metallic and non-metallic parts. Methods include the use of both classical hand calculations and computer techniques to develop high strength to weight ratio structures.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

This position supports the development of aircraft structures as a fatigue and damage tolerance analyst. Duties include performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis for both metallic and non-metallic parts. Methods include the use of both classical hand calculations and computer techniques to develop high strength to weight ratio structures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform durability/damage tolerance analyses to verify that structural integrity requirements have been met. Assignments will include detail part sizing, layout maturation, trade study analysis, weight reduction efforts, and documentation of calculations in support of type certification.

 

Position requires in-depth knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) fatigue and damage tolerance analysis methods. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint) required.  Experience with PATRAN, NASTRAN, and CATIA V5 is preferred. Capable of mentoring less experienced engineers, leading a small team.  Experience with composite structures is desired.

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

Capable of working independently.  Can accept broad objectives with agreed deadlines, but establishes the tasks required and how they should be completed.

Contacts customers and suppliers to exchange technical data and to discuss project performance.  Ensures application of best practices and identifies the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools.  Utilizes tool sets at an advance level.

Has obtained check and/or approval authority in assigned discipline if appropriate.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical or Engineering/Solid Mechanics) with a strong curriculum emphasis on structural design and analysis and mechanics of materials.Minimum 10 years total analysis experience in airframe design programs.  At least 5 years experience in F&DT or a master’s degree with emphasis on fracture mechanics is desired.Experience in airframe design, F&DT, Composites, MRB, FAR/JAR Part, 25 Certification, CATIA, NASTRAN, and PATRAN, are desired.
