Sr Computer Systems Technlgst I - UNIX Applications & Storage
The Sr. Computer Systems Technologist I (UNIX Applications & Storage) will provide systems administration support for operational storage and application environments. Will predominantly support STK/Sun storage products, Solaris and Linux, EMC platforms and Storage Area Networks (SANs). Will implement new concepts and procedures for operation of current systems and manage new acquisition and system deliveries to the environment. The Sr. Systems Administrator performs typical maintenance support tasks on software systems and products, including problem isolation, supporting users, and providing appropriate documentation. Performs operating system upgrades, software (customer and COTS), and patch installation. Performs configuration of LDAP, DNS, and includes client/server and networking. Provides users support for cross-domain and inter-system problems. Works with other team members and/or developers to investigate and solve problems identified within the systems. Performs system tuning, monitoring, metrics collection, etc. Adheres to configuration management policies. Work is performed under general direction. This candidate works independently and determines and develops approaches and plans for system administration and storage architecture solutions. Works with team members achieving imaginative, t horough and practical solutions in a dynamic problem-solving environment. Will work in an open environment where frequent and direct interaction and collaboration with customers, users and peers is ordinary. Basic Qualifications - Required Experience, Skills: Requires a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical subject, or equivalent experience, plus a minimum of four years of applicable work experience Must have four or more years experience performing systems administration functions for UNIX and/or Linux Must have one or more years experience configuring NFS. Must have four or more years experience with systems administration including configuration of systems, system installation and configuration, and installation of vendor software products. Must have one or more years experience writing scripts in at least one administrative language (ksh, csh, perl, etc). Requires effective oral and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. The team member must exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and strive to maintain constructive working relationships with colleagues, users, customers and vendors. REQUIRES US CITIZENSHIP. A life-style polygraph may be required for this position. Must be willing to undergo a life-style polygraph to attain additional clearance levels. Requires ability to satisfy requirements for a Top Secret SCI SSBI security clearance. Desired Experience, Skills, Knowledge: A current and active (or active within the last five years) Top Secret SCI SSBI security clearance is a significant advantage. Experience with Storage Area Networking including large data archive and backup systems. Experience with STK/Sun storage products, EMC platforms. Experience with the following platforms and operating systems: Solaris, Linux, Windows NT, and IBM AIX. This experience can be achieved through any of multiple functions - systems administration, software development, porting, etc. Experience configuring LDAP. Familiarity with the fundamentals of the distributed computing environment (DCE), to include client/server and networking. Understands basic network routing concepts. Software engineering experience. Database development and administration experience Independent problem solving and self-direction.
