Software Automation Engineer - North Reading, MA

Teradyne's Assembly Test Division (ATD) designs, manufactures, and markets a broad range of circuit board test and inspection systems, peripheral instrumentation and related software and test-development tools for the Aerospace, Automotive, and Defense Industry. Our mission is to help electronics manufacturers ensure the integrity and quality of their products with the highest possible fault coverage and defect detection technology available. Our systems are built to provide rapid-cycle-time inspection and cost-effective test platforms for prototyping, manufacturing, and depot repair stations worldwide.
Duties & Responsibilities
Be a key player on the design team for large Teradyne systems with significant automated handling subsystem content. The automation is a core part of these systems, which are manufactured and maintained in volume for multiple customers. Responsibilities include:
Specify performance and architecture of automated material handling systems that are part of a larger Teradyne tester.Manage third-party development using commercial automation components. Write control software to interface tester and high-level software with automation system. Create enhancements and improvements to system via low- and high-level software.
Basic Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Education RequiredBSEE, BSCS or equivalent experience required, MS preferred.Five to Seven years' experience programming robots and automation systems, especially six-axis robots and associated pneumatic end effectors. Proficient in use of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET. Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary design team.Either C++ or C# experience a must.Comfortable working in a dynamic environment.Excellent communication skills and experience interfacing with vendors and customers.Project management experience also preferred.While the emphasis is on control software, the ideal candidate also has experience with six-axis robot hardware and associated end effectors..
