Job Description
The Sr. Environmental Engineer is responsible for the air program, chemical management and
hazard communication, and various elements of the HS&E management system. Duties include
planning, development, and implementation of programs to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and
deliver cost savings to the business. Interfaces with personnel at all levels of the organization,
regulatory agencies, and industry groups. Identifies regulatory requirements, conducts area
audits and inspections, performs monitoring as needed, develops training programs, develops
procedures, evaluates new and modified installations or processes and prepares related reports
and documentation. Specific duties include the following:
Work with HSE&F staff and other departments to maintain compliance with applicable.
Local, State and Federal environmental regulations, as well as Honeywell's internal policies and procedures.
Provide technical guidance to support new manufacturing and testing programs and site consolidation activities.
A major project from 2008-2012 will be the relocation of the Honeywell Turbo Technology operations, a Title V facility also in Torrance, to the Honeywell Aerospace facility on 190th Street. This move will include construction of nine diesel engine test cells and ancillary operations.
Monitor plant operations and conduct routine audits to identify any deficiencies and develop appropriate corrective actions.
Provide oversight of consulting firms used to prepare permit renewals and modifications,including scope, schedule and cost.
Review current and proposed regulations and company requirements and recommend appropriate program measures to ensure compliance. Keep abreast with changing requirements. Develop proactive strategies to prepare for upcoming changes.
Ensure capture of relevant data for monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports as required by site permits.
Prepare reports as required by permits or applicable regulations, and manage work performed by consulting firms and contract employee.
Lead root cause investigations for any environmental incidents or deviations from permita nd regulatory requirements.
Ensure that all required reports are made in a timely and accurate manner.
Provide HS&E training on regulatory, corporate mandated and site specific requirements to supervisors and department personnel.
Manage the site's chemical hazard communication program, including MSDS, department chemical inventories, and the contract with 3EOnline.
Review chemicals to ensure compliance with regulations prior to introduction into the workplace.
Mange opsEnvironmental, which captures usage data for VOC-containing chemicals.
Further develop and maintain electronic work flow system which centralizes site-wide compliance activities, as well as HS&E tasks.
Interface with regulatory agencies relative to HS&E inspections, inquiries and associated corrective action plans.
Advise employees relative to HS&E concerns and partner with laboratory and manufacturing managers to implement corrective actions.
Partner with the ISO 14001 program owner on continuous improvement projects to mature the site's environmental management system.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related discipline.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a Health, Safety, and Environmental role.
Experience with Title V, RECLAIM, air regulatory programs.
Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Additional Qualifications: Green belt or six sigma training/certification is a plus.
Project Management experience highly desirable.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing environment to meet customer and business needs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels within the organization and regulatory agencies.
Excellent computer skills.
Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to influence others
