Based on specific stated objectives perform analysis, design, or test of one or more complex materials, structural components or functional systems of company products. Without detailed direction, study basic design concepts and criteria for assigned complex materials, components, or functional systems to ascertain the engineering principles involved and to adopt features from previously successful designs of a similar nature. With general direction, plan, prepare, and complete the design of assigned complex components and functional systems. Study the operation of systems, select major components to meet functional and operational requirements, and determine the optimum location and arrangement from an engineering, manufacturing, and service standpoint. Direct the more detailed analysis and design and follow up to assure compliance with original philosophy and good engineering practices. Develop general test program to evaluate new materials of products.Under the guidance of a lead engineer, the candidate will provide instrumentation support to all test activities, identify and reduce instrument related variability, improve data measurement quality, become familiar with existing data acquisition equipment, and ensure QA compliance of all instrumentation. Candidate will utilize electrical engineering background to troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation problems; improve test equipment reliability, and build checks-and-balance firmware. Candidate will be responsible to help maintain various computer systems in the Test group, its supporting hardware, and in organizing the Instrumentation area. Candidate shall keep all instrument drawings and databases accurate and up to date as called out by Orbital policies and guidelines. Some travel required to support off site program test needs.Solid understanding of analog and digital electronics, instrumentation design, and software programming (preferably in LabVIEW). Experience with electrical and electronic system design. Strong understanding of schematics and logic diagrams. Ability to debug a system, using a methodical approach to locate a failure. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, problem solving skills, and computer skills with standard word processing/spreadsheet experience. Ideal candidate will be a self starter who shows initiative and works well under the limited guidance of a lead engineer. Working knowledge of MS Office is required. Prior or current clearance is desirable. Candidate shall possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, plus a minimum of 4 years experience in aerospace or related field. Applicable course work or Control Systems P.E. may substitute for employment experience. US Citizenship required.
