RESEARCH ENGINEER - SAFETYAssigned Task Order: NND08RR91T, System Safety and Hazard Analysis Status: Non-Exempt Type: Part TimeMust possess the education, experience and skills of the Principle Engineer. This is a working engineering leadership level position which will perform the full spectrum of Systems Engineering duties. The position requires a mastery of Engineering principles and Systems Engineering processes. Applies intensive and diverse knowledge of engineering technology and systems engineering concepts to the specific technical tasks. This individual is capable of exercising a high degree of originality and sound judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad engineering research concepts, guiding the analysis of unique problems and developing new and improved techniques and methods. Reviews project instructions to ascertain requirements, specifications, procedures, objectives, equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions. Document and illicit user requirements and able to generate requirements and perform requirements decomposition and allocation to fully document operational and functional needs for systems in specific technical areas. Able to generate and validate test procedures to ensure that all system requirements are met. Sets up and conducts tests or studies of complete systems, components, or concepts under research test conditions to investigate proposals for improving performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control. Records test or report procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and makes recommendations for changes. Creates reports and other documentation necessary to describe the results of studies and / or tests. Creates project schedules to track progress on projects and to ensure that deadlines are met. Analyzes indicated and calculated results in relation to requirements, specifications, or test objectives. Mentors engineers in specific technical areas and/or the system engineering process and project management principles. Shall follow the safe practices and rules contained in the TYBRIN Corporate Safety and Health plan and other such rules and practices communicated on the job. Report status to Senior Technical Lead and/or Task Focal Point as required.Requirements: Education Required: Must have a Bachelors Degree or greater in Engineering or Physical Science, and at least 20 years experience, including 5 years experience as Principal Investigator, Group Leader, Project Engineer, Project Manager, or equivalent. (Masters Degree may be substituted for 2 years related experience, Doctorate for 5 years related experience) Work Experience Req. (Yrs.): 20+ years with a BSThis Safety Engineer position will be responsible for the development of a DVD UAV Mishap Lessons Learned video in support of Code S, System Safety, Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC).This is a level of effort position and will assist in archival research, coordinating interviews, editing, facilitating, preparing documentation, conducting briefings and presenting material to senior DFRC managers and staff. Products include timeline/schedule, themes (preliminary and final), visual artifacts of UAV mishaps, narrative summaries, approaches, proximate causes(s), root cause analysis where possible, trend or predictive analysis and other system engineering approaches, and final transcription, development and production of the DVD for review.Candidate will be responsible to facilitate problem solving, recognize existing and potential complex sensitivities associated with any maturing theme/message.This position will support the continual improvement in safety awareness at DFRC, the aerospace and flight test community; and, will support the integration of lessons learned through Code S and the flight test activities here at DFRC. This could take the form of corrective and preventive actions, and any potential new initiatives for projections of future requirementsCandidate must have strong background in project management, systems engineering; exceptional intrapersonal and communications skills required; demonstrated experience in large and small projects is a must.U.S. citizenship required.
