QA Lab Manager

Essential Functions:

This position is responsible for supervising and directing the activities of the Dimensional inspection, Chemical, Mechanical, Metallurgical, and Raw Material (alloy) Testing as well as maintaining an in-house calibration lab.

The main challenge of this position is to ensure that laboratory testing and calibration operations are conducted in accordance with company established procedures in an effective and efficient manner.

 

Specific Responsibilities Include:

· Supervise and schedule all Laboratory and testing activities in order to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency.

· Design and prepare procedures to support Laboratory operations.

· Maintain effective Laboratory operations selection, development, training and motivation of personnel.

· Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing, Engineering and other support departments on Inspection procedures and operations.

· Participate and assist in the performance of customer and Industry accreditation audits of testing and calibration issues.

· Coordinate and conduct customer and accreditation audits of the laboratory operations.

· Ensure that Gage calibration system is effective and complies with company operating procedures

· Ensure that testing operations are performed within guidelines of customer and national accreditation requirements.

· Maintain a record and documentation system for testing and calibration that complies with both Alcoa Fastening Systems and customer accreditation requirements.

· Instill an awareness and knowledge of accuracy and safety among the employees to minimize accidents and provide a safe work environment.

· Ensure the test lab system is in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and NADCAP requirements.

· Keep work area clean, safe and in orderly fashion on daily basis.

· Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and practices. Report all unsafe activities to human resources.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

· Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

· Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

· Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

· Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

· Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

· Proficient personal computer skills, including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

 

Education

· Bachelor’s Degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Engineering or Business, or seven years experience in quality management experience.

 

Experience and Background

· Formal Engineering Education and background, and 5 years of inspection and lab supervisory required.

· Knowledge of fasteners testing equipment and practices, including tensile, shear and vibration testing, also must have knowledge of metallurgical evaluation procedures. . Must have experience with mechanical inspection equipment such as micrometers, Optical Comparators, Hardness testers, and Torque testers.

· Basic knowledge of all inspection measuring and testing equipment, of SPC methods,

· Experience with AS9100 and NADCAP certification process.
