We are currently seeking individuals of varying experience levels to fill Propulsion Test Engineer positions at our Texas Test Site.  SpaceX Test Engineers play a large role in the development and testing of spaceflight hardware – drawing from fundamental knowledge in relevant disciplines:: propulsion and, structural systems, fluid and thermal interactions, critical data analysis, software development, and the communication of test results and design considerations (both for the test stand and flight articles). Rapid growth of the test facility and responsibilities frequently produce high level tasks (e.g. the construction of new test stands; SpaceX provides individuals with unique opportunities to build infrastructure and take on meaningful leadership roles.

 

 

 Responsibilities:

SpaceX Test Engineers work in a fast-paced environment, supporting a variety of propulsion and structural systems tests.  Specific responsibilities associated with this job include:Engineering, design, construction, and maintenance of test stands and related ground support equipment/processesSupervise assembly of engines, engine components, structural elements, or stage integrationConducting tests to evaluate hardware performanceWork with data acquisition systems  and control systems to continually improve in-test data recording Develop, continually review, maintain and execute test plans and proceduresDevelop novel ways site-wide to streamline processes and increase the reliability of testing operations

Required Skills/Experience:Bachelor of Science degree is required in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or software engineering, (A Master’s degree is encouraged, but not required)Strong fundamental understanding of fluid systems engineering, mechanical design, and instrumentation systems, requiredEntry level positions available, lab experience and/or internship experience highly preferredHands-on work with testing and data acquisition (a knowledge of Labview systems is a plusMechanical aptitude and experience (work with machines and general tooling) 3-D modeling experience (SolidWorks, UG, etc.) A demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving plays a critical roleTo conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, SpaceX hires only U.S. citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents

Desired Skills/Experience:2-5 years of experience preferred  in propulsion systems and associated disciplines Hands-on laboratory or test facility experience, preferred Experience with high pressure and cryogenic fluid system components (valves, reliefs, checks, filters, pipe and tubing, etc.), preferredExperience using test instrumentation and control components: pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, flow meters, load cells, relays, solenoid valves, preferred
