Process Engineer - Friction Stir Welding

 

TTI is a small, highly innovative company that is on the move!  We’re a respected, leading provider of Friction Stir Welding (FSW) systems for various industries. Our FSW Processing Facility includes production and laboratory operations. We have fun, work hard and pursue excellence. FSW machines from TTI manufacture components for airplanes, rockets and automobiles. They are also being used in research applications to advance the state-of-the-art in materials processing. Our machines are typically multi axis PLC and CNC based systems. In order to develop and grow our FSW Processing Facility, We are seeking an experienced Engineer to manage our laboratory and production welding operations.

 

Job Description

As a TTI Process Engineer you will have overall responsibility for the FSW Processing Facility. Duties include managing in-house friction stir welding production operations as well as trial runs, tooling development and laboratory samples. You will interact with mechanical and electrical engineers and designers, manufacturing and assembly technicians, project managers, vendors and the customer.

 

You will be responsible for:

-          Development of welding process parameters

-          Experimental design, structural and metallurgical analysis

-          Coordinating the production schedule and laboratory work schedule

-          Design, fabrication, setup and debug of production and laboratory work-holding fixtures

-          Maintaining a record keeping system for production and laboratory work

-          Managing the microscopy and metallurgical analysis resources

-          Management of the production welding machinery, including readiness of equipment

-          Interaction with customers on a business and technical level

 

You will learn how to:

-          Develop pin tool geometry

-          Develop new weld schedules for ferrous and non-ferrous alloys

-          Design experiments to optimize boundaries of process parameters

-          Evaluate weld quality

-          Trouble shoot production issues

-          Have a direct, positive impact on a growing business

 

Skills you should have or be capable of developing:

-          Understanding of machine design, operation of electromechanical machinery

-          Knowledge of metrology, including measurement, calibration and instrumentation

-          Engineering skills; math, statistics, design, structural analysis, metallurgy

-          Organizational skills; leadership, recordkeeping

-          The ability to write clearly, speak intelligently and listen carefully

 

Accomplishments you should bring to the job:

-          Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Materials degree desired, advanced degree is a plus

-          3-5 years in industry desired

-          Hands-on skills, willingness to “do what it takes” to get the job done

-          Friction Stir Welding knowledge is a strong positive
