Principal Systems Engineer (Part-Time)

We are currently recruiting for a part-time Principal Systems Engineer. The Principal Systems Engineer supports and reviews electronic, mechanical or electro-mechanical products, components or systems requiring the utilization of physics principles and their application to specific functions. Person in this role will redesign obsolete systems using state-of-the-art components and philosophies, PLCs, front panel controls, LCD displays, and various packaging concepts. Work requires broad experience with digital logic, analog design, microcontrollers, A/D and D/A conversion, serial and parallel interfaces, data access arrangements, data communication protocols, modems, industrial controls, optical and mechanical encoders, sensors, I/O devices, display systems and power supplies. Will be responsible to upgrade/refurbish old hydraulic test equipment implementing National Instruments products and LabVIEW software and will design, develop and integrate complex hydraulic systems.
Role typically requires a minimum of fifteen years of design and application experience and a minimum of five years directly related experience in a product area or technical specialty with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a Science, or equivalent education and experience to demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the job duties. FCC General Class license or better is required. Ten additional years of electrical engineering experience and Master’s Degree in Engineering, Science or Management preferred. Strong background in DoD proposal development and bidding of communications/electronics work is highly desired.
Experience performing research, concept design, requirements analysis and system design for an entire program with high technical risk and experience with mathematical modeling, algorithm development, requirements derivation and architecture development preferred. Strong applications/development experience with RF amplifiers and antenna design desired. Communications/electronics experience at Hill AFB is a plus.
Qualified candidate will have system and detailed knowledge of engineering, physics, and math principles and practices appropriate to the application area. Must be able to demonstrate requirements analyses and support skills for the application area. Must have a good understanding of electrical schematics and device data sheets to be able to correctly interpret circuit functionality of complex military electronic circuits. Must be able to apply logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems, to organize and prioritize program tasks, to integrate multiple disciplines and groups with one’s own discipline, and to evaluate progress and results on project(s) and recommend changes to processes. Must be able to effectively manage 10 or more employees with multiple engineering disciplines in a team environment. Will be expected to solve complex technical problems in a specific engineering discipline. Must have experience performing and/or supervising preliminary design, detailed design, fabrication, test, documentation, integration and formal testing, directing experimental programs in a functional or product area related to product development and the application of new technology, and supervising installation, integration and testing of high-risk systems at customer sites. Must have demonstrated performance leading integration of a project with high technical risks. Must have experience with a Quality Assurance program.
Must be a U.S. citizen and must be able to obtain unescorted access to Hill AFB. Requires good interpersonal skills with the ability to think independently. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and provide a current copy of driving record at least annually. Will be required to take a physical examination and a drug test.
