Power Engineer

Our employees bring a passionate focus to the solutions we create for our customers.We are seeking an experienced Electrical (Power) Engineer that will serve as a design and implementation engineer for the Deep Space Network (DSN). The DSN is comprised of three Deep Space Communications Complexes (DSCC), one in Madrid, Spain, another in Canberra, Australia and the third in Goldstone, California. The Goldstone DSCC is operated by ITT Industries on behalf of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The responsibility to technically oversee the functional requirements and operations of the Power Subsystem in the DSN is part of ITT's Operations and Maintenance Contract. The DSN Power Subsystem includes electrical generation, distribution, monitoring and control of all systems in buildings and antenna structures. The candidate shall be mainly responsible for the planning, design, analysis, cost estimating, and the supervision and management of the implementation of electrical modifications as may be required in part or in whole, of a project. The engineer will bear in part or in whole, as may be the case, cradle-to-grave responsibility of power-related new capabilities or modification projects and tasks, including specifying hardware, preparing construction specifications, as well as defining budgetary requirements to accomplish the task. The power engineer shall also lead in the resolution of technical power system problems and the implementation of corrections, including analysis of equipment performance, life cycle costing, equipment replacement and identification of spare parts. Responsibilities will also include supporting the DSN Engineering Change Management Board in the development, evaluation and costing of engineering change requests and change orders. The successful candidate will possess and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to prepare presentations and reports, as he/she will interface on a daily basis with JPL management and engineering personnel, as well as DSCC complex power plant engineers. The candidate should possess overall technical knowledge of diesel-engine generator power plant operations, paralleling and load sharing operational strategies, and must possess extensive experience in testing of electrical generation and distribution systems, including 50 and 400Hz systems. The candidate must be knowledgeable in automatic control of electrical power generation and distribution systems, including interpretation of relay ladder and PLC logic diagrams, and must be able to perform fault analysis and protective relay coordination studies, propose corrective actions, and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of NEC and relevant codes. The candidate should possess a working knowledge of PLC Ladder and Boolean programming, demonstrable skills in PLC and SCADA systems, and working knowledge of MS Office, SKM PowerTools, and AutoCAD software programs.The candidate will be expected to quickly familiarize himself with the form and function of the DSN power subsystem and be capable of taking the technical lead in multiple capital improvement projects across the DSN.Education: Current Registration as Professional Electrical Engineer (P.E.) in the State of California. M.S.E.E with a minimum of 6 years related experience or B.S.E.E. with a minimum 8 years related experience.
