ITT has a position available for an Optical Processing Engineer III in the thin film coating area of the Space Systems Division (SSD) in Rochester, NY. This individual will provide engineering support for the manufacturing of large optical components, utilizing data analysis techniques and software, problem solving skills, and leadership skills to deliver high quality products on time.Responsibilities/Objectives:- Provide engineering support for the manufacturing of various large optical components to support ITT's Precision Optics organization.- Work with engineering and manufacturing teams to plan, organize and execute processing of optical components through all phases of the manufacturing process (especially thin film coating), and manufacture prototypes and state of the art optics, all working closely with technicians and operations personnel. - Mentor lower level engineers and technicians- Provide optical data analysis throughout the process- Provide Operations with robust processes and equipment- Help to maintain delivery schedules utilizing proven problem solving techniques- Drive continuous improvement in the manufacturing of various large optical components- Write and maintain process work instructions- Work independently with minimal supervisor intervention - Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and willing to submit to a background investigation. A United States government security clearance may be required for this position. - Bachelor/Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or Optics.- Five to Twelve years background and experience in optics manufacturing, preferably in thin film optical coatings. Experience in fixed abrasive generation, loose abrasive grinding and polishing, other novel optics manufacturing processes, mechanical and optical metrology, and processes development is a plus. - Knowledge of and experience with optical manufacturing processes and equipment. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to conduct presentations for management, technical and customer review. - Previous experience in creating engineering estimates for project cost and schedule, executing tasks and reporting on progress.- Experience utilizing lean manufacturing techniques.ITT is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.
