Bring your talent and skills to the following IDS group: WLED: The Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLED) is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user. Job Description: Systems Engineer II, to serve as Software Systems Safety Engineer, responsible for performance of software system safety analysis and tasks per MIL - STD -882. As part of the Whole Life Engineering (WLE) department, the Software Systems Safety Engineer will participate in the design and development process, identifying risks and influencing design to eliminate or minimize risks. Specific software systems safety tasks may include any or all of the following: - Conduct software safety analysis per criteria in the Joint Services Software Safety Committee (JSSSC) Handbook. - Conduct software safety tasks while maintaining schedule and cost performance. - Assist in the performance of safety analyses and document results (Preliminary Hazards List/Analysis, System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and Safety Assessment Report). - Develop Software Safety Requirements. - Conduct requirements analysis and flow-down of Safety requirements and attributes in Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS). - Access Safety Critical Software Requirements/Code and assign Software Hazard Risk Index (SHRI) values. - Participate in Software Code Reviews. - Review Web Based Software Trouble Reports ( WSTR ) for safety impact and provide risk assessments. - Support Software Configuration Review Boards. - Participate in Software Qualification Test events. - Assist with documenting hazards in Hazard Tracking System. - Participate in System Safety Working Groups and Technical Interchange Meetings. - Assist in development of Technical Data Packages and Presentations for Safety Board Reviews. - Represent Software System Safety Engineering and present results of software safety analysis at formal program design reviews ( PDR /CDR). - Assist in developing Basis of Estimates (BOE) and support Proposal Activities. - Travel associated with supporting customer meetings, test/demonstration events, and formal program reviews. Basic Qualifications Skills: Requires specialized professional knowledge and skills in applying scientific and engineering principles, criteria and, techniques to identify and eliminate hazards, in order to reduce the associated risk. - Demonstrated understanding and wide application of technical theories and concepts related to software systems safety engineering and combat/weapon systems design. - Demonstrated ability to work independently on a large-scale combat/weapon systems development program. - Demonstrated ability to contribute to the completion of specific program and project tasks. - Demonstrated understanding of computer programming principles and safety critical software criteria. - Secret Security Clearance. - Required Education (including Major): BS / BA in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics Desired Qualifications Skills: - 2 years systems engineering and software safety experience - Experience with U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Air Force combat/weapon systems and ordnance development. - Experience conducting and documenting safety analysis IAW MIL - STD -882. - Experience preparing technical data packages and presenting to Military Safety Review Boards. - Demonstrated functional knowledge of Missile Defense Agency Assurance Provisions ( MAP ), Joint Software System Safety Committee (JSSSC) Handbook, and STANAG 4404.
