That's why we're here. Mechanical & Structural Engineer Manager L Position Description Department Manager of Satellite Structures. Responsible for program execution duties and management of assigned engineers. Scope includes engineering design, structural analysis, assembly tooling, assembly, and test. Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Design, Integration & Support Engineering. Develops and executes business plans, policies and procedures and develops organizational and technical strategies. Acquires resources, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes. Manages, develops and motivates employees. This is a first line technical design engineering management position. This leader will manage design engineers, stress analysts, and vehicle engineers. This leader is responsible for managing technical performance, cost performance, schedule performance, and risk management performance. This manager will need to know how to mechanically design, analyze, and qualify satellite bus structures, and design the integration of other satellite subsystems onto the satellite bus. This manager is responsible for bus design across multiple programs utilizing varied bus families. [ + ] Project Management Oversees execution of comprehensive multi-tiered project schedules created by direct reports. Supports direct reports in management of complex project schedules requiring interfacing with multi-regional and international activities. Provides guidance to direct reports in identifying project resource requirements and aids in integration of multi project elements into a single collective overall project plan. Provides tools and training to project managers to help streamline project management processes. Ensures collaboration of project managers with others on the most complex projects assigned. Fosters collaboration with fellow middle managers and across work functions to ensure that organizational resources are maximized. Maintains continuous communication with project managers to identify and resolve any issues to ensure the successful completion of multiple projects.Technical [ + ] Analytical Skills Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the business unit level. [ + ] Design/Test/Cert Regulations In-depth knowledge of appropriate customer or governmental regulations relevant to design, test, and certification (e.g., Part 25, MILSPEC). [ + ] Detailed Product Knowledge Thorough knowledge of aerospace and weapons structure, materials strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions, systems (e.g., avionics, hydraulic, electrical, propulsion, egress), components (e.g., multifunction displays, wing, engine, landing gear transmission), and loadable/non-loadable software (e.g., radar operational programs, inertial navigation programs, operational flight programs); payload systems (e.g., cargo handling system, galley, vacuum waste, oxygen, emergency equipment.) [ + ] Engineering Processes In-depth knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines. In-depth knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes. Provides advice and support to other management personnel. [ + ] MSE Management Tech Knowledge In-depth knowledge or relevant vehicle mechanical Systems, Structural and payloads design and analysis which typically includes one or more of the following areas: Static and dynamic loads analysis, fluid systems design and analysis, Thermal design and analysis, Mechanical system design and analysis, Structural design and analysis, Vehicle test, qualification and certification, Interior/crew station and cargo systems design and analysis, Rotorcraft dynamic systems design and analysis. Spacecraft flight systems, Satellite systems, Engineering process and tool development and implementation, and Ordnance design and analysis. Education and/or Experience Other Job related information 11-15 yrs. experience in spacecraft composite design analysis and test. Proven ability to lead integrated product teams. Familiarity with project management techniques and best practices. Structural engineering design and analysis principles. Satellite system and structural design experience and techniques. Space vehicle composite (bonded) structure design methods. Composite material science experience. American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) & other industry process experience: Geometrical Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T) and Model Based Definition (MBD). CAD experience: Pro-E, CATIA V5 and CV. FEA experience: Patran and Nastran. Composite structure integration and test tooling design experience. Composite structure qualification testing experience: thermal, vibration, acoustic, static, shock, deployment. Separation mechanism design principles. Mechanical REA experience. Leadership of people to optimize their performance and job satisfaction. Business management experience: Earned Value cost mgmt, critical path schedule mgmt, risk mgmt. Line and/or project mgmt experience and an active SSBI is a plus. Demonstration of Boeing Leadership Attributes.
