Mechanical Engineer/SupervisorDescription: We are looking for someone who can perform the following duties: Assigns tasks to, provides technical direction for, and monitors progress of design/drafting personnel based on and in compliance with technical requirements, reviews accomplishments during the performance of tasks, and makes technical and personnel changes as required to insure completion of tasks in a timely and thorough manner. Performs computer aided design and drafting tasks of mechanical hardware in support of the Photonics Division. Interacts with the Engineering Group to develop layouts and prepare complete first article detail drawings and assemblies, including the development of the Bill of Materials for fabrication; contribute design modifications to improve quality of products or facilitate manufacturing operations as required. Verifies own work and the work of others, checking dimensions and making mathematical calculations as necessary. Coordinating with appropriate engineering and project personnel, plans, schedules and resolves schedule and priority conflicts; expedites design and drafting tasks. Establishes and maintains design and drafting standards and criteria, including but not limited to, the Drafting Manual, Design Procedures Manual, drawing formats, signatory responsibility lists for all engineering documents, and supplementary memos and correspondence. Researches and identifies CAD software, operating systems and hardware for purchase; negotiates and renews purchase and maintenance contracts; and installs, and troubleshoots. Participates in decisions relating to engineering data management including both document control and CAD. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.Requirements: Must have education/formal training equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline with ten or more years experience in SOLIDWORKS-based CAD engineering design, including three or more years supervising drafters/designers. Experience operating and administrating a CAD network in a variety of operating environments such as, but not limited to, UNIX and Windows including the assembly and installation of operating systems, CAD, and related software. The ability to write, interpret and communicate complex issues and technical information to management, staff and customers (including international customers) as well as supervising, evaluating, and training assigned staff. Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail software. The ability to work extended hours and will travel as required. Experience with Opto-Mechanical and laser system design including optical mounting, support structures, interface design and control with external supports, airborne or space environmental control.
