That's why we're here. Materials Process & Physics Engineer 3 Position Description Apply knowledge to provide support in the technology of composite materials and processes. Typical tasks will include: preparing and maintaining material and process specifications, develop and implement qualification testing, direct laboratory testing to establish root cause, resolves production issues both internally and at outside suppliers, implement preventive action. Knowledge of non metallic materials: composites, sealants, coatings, adhesives and associated processes for fabrication and application are highly desired. Apply knowledge to the structural/mechanical material and process disciplines in order to support the development and evaluation of metallic aerospace materials and of the processes related to their use in production. Apply knowledge of properties of metallic materials in order to develop, select, or recommend materials that meet the environmental and regulatory requirements for chemical, environmental, and mechanical systems. Apply knowledge of fabrication assembly processes in order to develop production process standards that are repeatable, cost effective, environmentally friendly, and meet contractual and regulatory requirements. Background must include knowledge of ferrous metallurgy, steel making processes, corrosion principles, Non-Destructive Evaluation Processes. Must have experience with material and finish selection in order review engineering drawings for verification of performance objectives and contractual compliance. Must be able to interpret specifications (e.g., materials, processes, parts standards) for affected personnel and organizations in order to provide clarification and ensure specification intent is met. Must be able to review and approve new and revised documents. Apply knowledge to the material and process disciplines in order to support the development and evaluation of specifications for aerospace materials and of the processes related to their use in production. Apply engineering knowledge and software techniques in order to write engineering specifications using customized XML based software. Ensures application of best practices and identifies the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools. Contacts customers, teaming partners (at various Boeing sites), subcontractors, and suppliers to exchange technical data and to discuss specification content. Consistently identifies potential conditions that contribute to gaps or key variances; fully explores relationships between conditions and effects; distinguishes causes from symptoms and identifies primary causes. Independently generates ideas for solutions; fully analyzes the effect or impact of each solution; selects appropriate solutions. Consistently tests solutions; gathers feedback from own work group, other work groups, and occasionally external customers on effectiveness; reviews impact on baseline measures; modifies solutions as appropriate to ensure effectiveness.Technical [ + ] Engineering Processes Complete knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Complete knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business). [ + ] Material/Engineer Principles Complete knowledge of composite and elastomer materials engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems and sub-systems. Education and/or Experience Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
