Manager, Engineering Department Actuators
Company: Orbital Sciences Corporation Location: Chandler, AZ 85248 Job Category: Engineering Reference Code: 080316 Manager, Engineering Department Actuators Since our founding in 1982, Orbital has pioneered new classes of rockets, satellites and other space systems that have made us one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of space and missile systems. Our commercial, civil government and military customers depend on our low-orbit, geostationary and planetary spacecraft to help them meet their communications, remote sensing and scientific missions. We also launch exciting new careers every day. Join us in bringing the benefits of space down to Earth! Responsible for technical, cost, and schedule requirements of pre-proposal efforts, proposal development, design and development, internal/customer design reviews and technical documentation. Responsible for managing technical personnel assigned to a department, we well as ensuring that qualified and appropriate personnel (and supporting design and analysis tools, etc) are assigned to meet the needs of all programs. In addition, directly responsible for the processes for completing work in their assigned functional field.Ideal candidate has direct experience in mechanical design of electromechanical and hydromechanical actuators, including thrust vector control systems. Results oriented leader with experience managing groups in new product development, concurrent engineering, and employee training and development. Candidate must be able to develop/size mechanisms (gears, bearings, ballscrews, motors, clutches, brakes, position sensors) of low-to-high power Actuators and TVA systems that meet aerospace and military standards. Must be able to develop cost-effective, lightweight actuator solutions to customer requirements for actuator speed, torque, accuracy, stiffness, voltage, and current draw. Must be able to be lead all facets of the design, development, and test process. Must be familiar with and able to design custom gears to AGMA specifications.Familiarity of anti-backlash gear systems is a plus (split-pinion, split-bullgear, multi-track gear train)Support verification and validation tests of EMA / TVA systems and components.
