Location: Northern/Huntsville, AL Job Category: IT/Software Development Career Level: Experienced (Non-Manager) Reference Code: S07-6940 Integrated Air and Missile Defense Staff Systems Engineer General Dynamics C4 Systems designs, develops, and integrates highly sophisticated command, control, and communications systems for the U.S. military, federal agencies, civil governments and related international customers. These state-of-the-art systems combine advanced imagery software and multi-sensor integration to provide real-time situational awareness to tactical decision makers. Our systems transform large amounts of complex data into useful information that is clearly and intuitively presented to the operators, enabling commanders make informed decisions in real-time. We build systems for a wide range of global missions including wartime battlefield management, crisis management, peace keeping and contingency operations, drug intervention, and public safety.The successful candidate will be a Systems Engineer for the execution of the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System program. The program will utilize a spiral development approach to accomplish the migration from “stove-piped” systems to a “system of systems” approach. This method involves fielding capabilities incrementally that are closely associated with the Combat Developer's timeline for fielding Future Force capabilities. The candidate will have the ability to understand and execute a System of Systems acquisition approach program to meet the requirements of the warfighter and obtain the desired capabilities of the Army AMD Future Force. This System of Systems approach calls for a restructuring of systems into components of sensors, weapons and BMC4I with a standard set of interfaces among those components using a standardized set of networks to communicate. Demonstrated knowledge of the development, testing, fielding, and sustainment of the Common Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence or BMC4I system for the weapons components that constitute System of Systems is required. The Common BMC4I will bridge the gap between today’s fielded weapons and sensor components, such as PATRIOT and Sentinel, and tomorrow’s new developments, such as SLAMRAAM and MEADS Committed to maintain "expert" level in multiple technologies.BS degree in a technical field and 15 years of demonstrated results. Advanced degree desired. Technical domain expertise is required in Missile Defense systems, including system architecting and the full life cycle of system engineering. Previous technical leadership success on large system-of-system programs is desired. Has demonstrated strengths and experience in the following areas: - Systems engineering artifact generation and tools. - Understanding of the entire life cycle of a system development program - Understanding of service based architectures - Recognized beyond our company as an authority in the domain of expertise. Knowledge and exposure to currently deployed DOD systems is desired. Knowledge of C4ISR systems in general is required. Other experiences: - Former Army experience highly desirable - Understanding of the Combat System Development Process and Requirements Generation process is desirable. Must also be able to work with limited supervision and be capable of leading small technical teams. Must also possess excellent communication skills and be capable of presenting technical concepts in easy to understand terms to large audiences. Must be able to travel 20% of the time. Secret level U.S. DoD security clearance is required. Applicant must be able to pass an extended background investigation (EBI) for this position.
