Job Description: DVS II hubs will be connected via the DISN, which will provide increased bandwidth and diverse physical access to DoD sites globally. The hubs will include interfaces to the Defense Switched Network (DSN), Secret Internet Protocol Routing Network (SIPRNet), Non-secret Internet Protocol Routing Network (NIPRNet), Federal Telecommunications Services (FTS) 2001, and commercial ISDN. Figure 3-2 provides the proposed system architecture for DVS II. The Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) is IP H.323 based. To add capabilities for legacy ISDN (H.320) systems, H.323 to H.320 gateways are added. These gateways terminate ISDN calls, convert them to IP, and forward them on to the MCU to be added into the desired conference. Dial-out capabilities also allow this process to happen in reverse. IP Calls from the MCU can be made to the gateway where they will be converted to ISDN and sent to an ISDN Video Conferencing Facility (VCF). There are two types of H.323 to H.320 gateways, depending on whether the call is unclassified or classified. If the call is unclassified, the gateway will have Prime Rate Interface (PRI) ports that can be directly connected to the Defense Switched Network (DSN) or Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). If the call is classified, the gateway will have PRI ports that can be directly connected to a Type 1 encryption device.
