Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, will provide hands-on creation of designs for print, web, and multimedia applications, to include interfaces and icons. In addition, will direct the on-going project efforts, providing make or buy decisions to ensure balanced workloads within the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Recommends concepts and design solutions that graphically convey complex ideas and messages. Selects photography and other graphic elements from vendors; directs original photography as necessary. Maintains a state-of-the-art knowledge of design and related disciplines. Oversees and/or administers multiple concurrent design projects by working with the Corporate Communications manager, business unit marketing leaders and others as required. Functions as a common point of contact for design projects. Leads the development, implementation and maintenance of corporate and business unit graphic standards. On-boards and trains new hires, provides ongoing training to existing staff. Monitors work completion of team against deadlines. Identifies errors and follows up on corrections. Acquires, scopes and evaluates new projects, and schedules project activities. Distributes project work to graphic design team as appropriate, factoring in workload, staff capabilities and other considerations. Prepares statements of work. Establishes and complies with standard processes and specifications (e.g. templates, formats, styles, databases, quality control, corporate identity, file naming, archiving) and recommends / implements improvements. Provides project-related guidance, assistance and support to graphic design team. Evaluates design projects and assigns them to the design staff or recommends external resources as appropriate. Identifies and recommends outside artists or creative vendors as appropriate. Creates, maintains and publishes standards for corporate visual identity. Approves modifications and exceptions to visual identity standards, as directed.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor´s degree in graphic design, advertising, marketing or a related field, with
6 – 9 years of related experience, or applicable Master´s degree, 4 – 6 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience required. Experience in aviation or marine products or services is desirable. Team Lead experience is highly desirable.
Well-developed graphic design skills required.Must be proficient working in Mac environments and in the area of layout applications.Proficiency in Quark, InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, and Flash.Demonstrated proficiency leading the development, implementation and maintenance of corporate graphic standards. Demonstrated proficiency leading design projects from inception to completion. Demonstrated proficiency assigning work to and leading junior team members.Ability to direct vendors and outside resources. Ability to negotiate and persuade others to embrace creative strategies. Proficiency with state-of-the-art design and office software.
