GMD Systems Architecture Engineer 4/5 Position Description Systems Engineer to provide System Architecture expertise for a GMD Weapons Systems Engineering team responsible for defining, documenting, and managing the GMD System Architecture. Position responsibilities include documenting current GMD architecture and capabilities, assessing system performance and identifying capability shortfalls, identifying architecture alternatives, determining functional requirements and interface changes required by new system capabilities, supporting architecture sensitivity analyses and trade studies, and establishing a forward path for GMD system development. Position requires interfacing with Missile Defense National Teams and GMD Product Teams to ensure a thorough review of GMD architecture. The successful candidate will employ a comprehensive knowledge of System Architecture tools, processes, and products to assess current and planned system architectures and interfaces and postulate alternative approaches that improve system effectiveness in terms of performance, cost, risk mitigation, flexibility, and robustness. Preferred -Expert ability to evaluate complex vehicles and systems from a multitude of perspectives. Includes the ability to apply figures of merit and integrated optimization tools. Ability to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies to evaluate configuration alternatives for functional and spatial integration. [ + ] Engineering Analysis Basic - Extensive knowledge of engineering analysis (e.g. mechanical, electrical, avionics, design, circuit, systems, stress, structural, durability). Preferred -Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the business unit level. [ + ] Integrated Systems Basic - Extensive knowledge of design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, equipment, and methods. Preferred -Advanced knowledge of engineering analysis (e.g. mechanical, electrical, avionics, design, circuit, systems, stress, structural, durability). [ + ] Systems Trade Studies Basic - Extensive and specialized knowledge of trade study process (e.g., benchmarking, best value). Preferred -Advanced/expert knowledge of design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, equipment, and methods. Education and/or Experience Level 4 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 5 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information REQUIRED: Active SECRET clearance. Experience with architectural modeling tools such as System Architect or Rhapsody and modeling constructs such as UML or SysML. Experience with development and use of Department of Defense Architecture Framework views of system architectures. Experience in developing or working on Service Oriented Architecture, Application Architect or Enterprise Architecture. Experience with system of systems design and integration, and analysis of system architectures and interfaces. Experience with development, decomposition, and verification of system requirements. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to brief results to senior leadership. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment. PREFERRED: Active TOP SECRET clearance. Experience with both traditional product-based and matrix organizational structures. Knowledge of large-scale, integrated system-of-systems architecture and/or operations. Skill in technical analysis, modeling, simulation and evaluation of large-scale system-of-systems architectures and operations.
