GMD Distributed Ground Test Mission Manager Position Description The Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) System is the first missile defense program deployed operationally to defend the homeland against ballistic missile attacks conducted by terrorists or rogue states. The system provides early detection and tracking during the boost phase, midcourse target discrimination, precision intercept and destruction of inbound ICBMs through force of hit-to-kill technology. Extensive ground and flight tests have demonstrated the system's successful performance against long-range ballistic missile targets. The GMD Distributed Ground Test Mission Manager is responsible for managing the execution of ground tests in support of fielding. This Mission Manager will identify programmatic and technical issues and work through the program organizations to resolve the issues. Additional responsibilities include event planning, establishing Distributed Ground Test master schedules (while assuring lower level schedules are in accordance with the integrated master schedule), and participating in major reviews for Distributed Ground Tests. The Mission Manager will status GMD Leadership on a continuous basis to ensure readiness of distributed ground tests. This Mission Manager is responsible for reporting distributed ground test issues and progress to Program Directors (Boeing and Government) as well as chairing the Distributed Ground Test Horizontal Integration Team. Provides tools and training to project managers to help streamline project management processes. Ensures collaboration of project managers with others on the most complex projects assigned. Fosters collaboration with fellow senior managers and across work functions to ensure that organizational resources are maximized. Maintains continuous communication with other leaders to identify and resolve any issues to ensure the successful completion of multiple projects. Ability to effectively utilize risk / opportunity/ issues management tools (e.g., iso-risk charts/plots and waterfall) to support program/project execution. Education and/or Experience Preferred: Educational credentials meeting the Boeing classification standards for engineers and typically a minimum of 20 years experience in an engineering classification.
