Rucker, AL, for 3 to 6 months, then permanently stationed at Redstone Arsenal, ALDescription of Position: The Flight Test Engineer conducts developmental testing and evaluations of advanced flight controls, avionics, navigation, and visionics systems for military rotary wing aircraft. As a Test Director or team member, the incumbent will perform test planning and execution, data acquisition, data analysis, and reporting on assigned test projects. The incumbent will coordinate with other engineers, experimental test pilots, and project officers in the testing of advanced flight controls, avionics, navigation, and visionics systems. The incumbent will apply sound engineering principles to the extensive Test and Evaluation mission of the Army Aviation Technical Test Center. The incumbent will apply new technologies and testing methodologies to assess unusual problems that result from the testing and evaluation of advanced aircraft and associated modifications. The incumbent will look beyond immediate technical concerns to examine the implications of those problems to producing, fielding, and supporting the materiel in the operational Army Aviation environment. The incumbent will consult with materiel developers and manufacturers on matters dealing with advanced flight controls, avionics, navigation, and visionics systems for rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft. The incumbent will bring the expertise of an experienced electronic/electrical engineer to bear on the development and application of data acquisition systems. The incumbent is responsible for the proper management and execution of the testing of aircraft systems such as radar, infrared, lasers, and threat system analysis as they relate to the aviation items under test.QualificationsEducation/Experience/Skills Required:* BS degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Systems engineering.* MS degree in any of the above disciplines is highly desirable.* Shall have at least three years of experience in the testing and evaluation of aviation materiel.* Must have demonstrated the capability to publish reports and technical papers on the results of developmental and/or experimental flight testing of advanced visionics, radar, and advanced aircraft survivability systems for rotorcraft.* Must have demonstrated the capability to plan and execute assigned projects of the developmental and/or experimental flight testing of advanced visionics, radar, and advanced aircraft survivability systems for rotorcraft.* Must have demonstrated the ability to apply the practical knowledge of engineering to flight testing principles and concepts applicable in the conduct of developmental and system flight testing of rotary wing advanced visionics, radar, and advanced aircraft survivability systems for rotorcraft.* Must have demonstrated experience in the theory and applicability of electro-optics, avionics, systems (to include communication, navigation, and identification systems), cockpit controls and displays, system architecture and integration, and system software development as they relate to the test and evaluation of rotary wing aircraft.* Must have demonstrated the capability to plan for and test the Electromagnetic Compatibility, Electromagnetic Interference, and Electromagnetic Vulnerability of aircraft and their associated systems.* Must have the capability to compile, reduce, format, analyze, and present test data.* Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with Government and contractor personnel.* Must have demonstrated experience in coordinating with outside organizations and presenting formal technical briefings.Westar/QinetiQ North America is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
