Flight Science Manager

Â
Responsible for managing BaySys Technologies tasks for the Flight Sciences group. Tasks include managing the group engineers and administrative support, as well as off site subcontractors performing work for the group, while always striving to accomplish the tasks within the assigned budget and schedule.

Description of Duties Performs finite element modeling and classical stress analysis on aircraft structures, systems and interiors, and reviews the same work from others. Performs Damage Tolerance analysis on aircraft structures, systems and interiors, and/or reviews the same work from others. Performs mechanical engineering analysis on aircraft systems and interiors, and/or reviews the same work from others. This includes diverse systems including: environmental conditioning, humidification, drying, temperature sensing & control, vent, plumbing, drains, vacuum waster, oxygen, heat load analysis, etc. Performs aerodynamic analysis on aircraft fuselage and antennas, and/or reviews the same work from others. This may include complex fluid dynamic analysis, fluid flow, icing, drag analysis, etc. Reviews and approves other forms of analysis, such as heat loads, electrical loads, environmental control system flow, fluid flow, icing, damage tolerance, and fatigue. Manages the project Flight Sciences budgets and schedules Assigns duties to Flight Sciences engineering group personnel Plans manpower requirements for current and future projects Selects candidates for interviewing with the group. Interviews and makes recommendations for hire. Establishes relationships with outside service providers that can perform mechanical engineering work for BaySys. Communicates requirements, negotiates purchase order terms, and requests purchase orders from the Purchasing department as required. Provides technical support and guidance to the engineers and designers. Supports Bid and Proposal work with system block diagrams, hour estimates, and task listings. Ensures that each individual is qualified and fully trained for the task to which each is assigned. Regularly reviews the performance of the group and make corrective actions for individuals with performance issues. Supports the Director of Engineering with other duties as assigned. Supports the program managers and project engineers on requests for resources for each project.  Keeps the Director of Engineering informed of issues which may affect the ability of BaySys to deliver on projects per project requirements. Cooperates and support the other departments at BaySys that rely upon engineering data to do their job. Be open to suggestions on how to improve the engineering product in order to help others accomplish their jobs more efficiently.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Civil Engineering and eight years experience including three years of supervisory experience in Aerospace Engineering in structural and stress analysis. Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or Civil Engineering preferred.
