Environmental Protection Specialist

The Baybrook Business Unit, Bloomfield, IN, Operations currently has an opening for an Environmental Protection Specialist. The position will primarily support customers at NSWC Crane, Indiana. JOB DESCRIPTION: Scope: The candidate will provide environmental compliance management support services such as, but not limited to: hazardous material management, including development and review of HAZMAT Plans & Procedures in accordance with regulatory and DoD requirments and inspection of storage locations; perform EPCRA reporting for the DoD, including Tier II and Form R reports; perform Asbestos and Paint (for Lead,Chromium, etc.) inspections (license will be required to perform that work); support other field sampling as required, such as stormwater sample collection and BMP inspections. In addition, the candidate will analyze data and develop written, and verbal, reports and technical documents. Work on problems of diverse scope. May serve in a lead role on specific projects and tasks and eventually train others. Will interact daily with subordinates and/or functional peer groups. Interact with internal, as well as external, customers. REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in a scientific or equivalent discipline and 3+ years of related experience. Relevant experience would include having worked either in industrial facilities with numerous processes and operations, or previous work as a consultant having performed the tasks outlined in this job description, or prior environmental work supporting a Department of Defense (DoD) branch. Additional required skills include: candidate must have prepared technical reports for submittal to regulatory agencies and/or to customers who in turn have submitted the reports to regulatory agencies; must be able to perform field sampling and work occasionally in an outdoor environmental during various seasons; must be able to work well with diverse range of customers and co-workers and with minimal supervision after initial orientation. Candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both in technical writing and oral presentations. Must be well-organized, detail oriented, and able to work on multiple tasks at various times. Must be able to pass respirator fit test physical. DESIRED SKILLS: Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM) would definitely be beneficial, but is not mandatory. Asbestos and Lead Inspection (for State of Indiana) licenses are preferred, but not mandatory upon hire. However, the position does require the candidate to be able to successfully obtain any required licenses.
