Environmental Health and Safety (EH & S) Coordinator
Environmental Health and Safety (EH & S) Coordinator – Rockford, IL
Provide strategic EH&S direction to plant’s senior management, supervisors and employees.
a. Ensure facility compliance with federal, state and local EH&S laws and regulations.
b. Implement and execute Company EH&S programs and
operation-specific programs at the plant level.
c. Reduce facility EH&S liability related to present and future operations.
d. Manage facility workers’ compensation program and coordinate with the workers’
compensation coordinator
e. Manage facility loss control issues.
2. Provide technical and regulatory assistance to plant employees while maintaining a dotted
line matrix reporting structure to EH&S Director(s).
Position Responsibilities
1. Assist plant senior management in developing and coordinating plant’s EH&S programs and
activities.
2. Provide assurance to the facility manager that the plant complies with applicable EH&S laws
and regulations. Examples of compliance duties are listed below:
a. Identify, track and resolve plant EH&S non-compliance issues and report status on
an as-needed basis to the Plant Manager.
b. Ensure that all appropriate plant employees receive required training.
c. Ensure that all required written programs (e.g., SPCC/SWPPP plan, hazard
communication, contingency plan, lockout/tag out, waste minimization plan, hearing
conservation, blood borne pathogens, etc.) are properly documented.
d. Prepare permit applications, ensure compliance with permit limits, monitor and
maintain any records required by permit.
3. Implement EH&S programs as required by Company corporate policies
and procedures and as required by the specific needs of the plant.
4. Ensure maintenance and easy access to current Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the
plant.
5. Function as a technical consultant to the plant for EH&S issues (i.e., by demonstrating basic
technical understanding relative to chemical fate, waste management, industrial hygiene,
health & safety issues, air pollution control, wastewater treatment, etc.).
6. Keep current with changing EH&S laws and regulations on a federal, state and local level.
7. Maintain integrity of the OSHA 200 logs located at plant, evaluating the plant’s safety
performance and correlating accident frequency and severity with workers’ compensation
cost.
8. Responsible for the completion of the EPA “Community Right To Know” SARA Section 313
Form R Toxic Release reports. Collect data and prepare and submit reports to federal, state
and local authorities.
9. Conduct periodic inspections of the plant for EH&S compliance and best management
practices.
10. Manage the facility industrial hygiene program including noise sampling and other field
sampling activities.
11. Evaluate all plant expansions and/or process modifications. Review capital appropriation
requests for EH&S impacts and any regulatory requirements.
12. Ensure that all records related to EH&S programs are maintained and are current.
13. Assist in the investigations of work related injuries and development of programs to prevent
such accidents and injuries from recurring.
14. Be the plant’s main point of contact during discussions and negotiations with Environmental
and Health & Safety regulatory agencies (e.g. during inspections, permit renewals).
15. Work closely with plant’s senior management to identify community EH&S concerns
regarding facility operations, and provide technical information, as necessary, to address
those concerns.
16. Develop and deliver required EHS training to all levels of the organization.
17. Coordinate medical/health evaluations of employees as mandated by regulatory agencies or
corporate policy.
18. Coordinate the resolution of loss control recommendation with plant senior management and
the Director of EHS.
19. Act as facility EMR. Duties to include:
a) Ensuring that an environmental management system is established, implemented,
and maintained in accordance with the requirements of this International Standard.
b) Reporting to top management on the performance of the environmental management
system for review, including recommendations for improvement.

Education/Experience
1. Post High School education in a technical discipline such as
Chemistry/Biology or related work experience (i.e. EH&S responsibilities in a manufacturing
environment).
2. Minimum one to three years of direct EH&S experience in a manufacturing, consulting, or
regulatory capacity. More experience may be necessary for large and/or complex plants.
3. Knowledge of plant operations, mechanical operations and waste generation processes.
4. Ability to develop and administer EH&S programs on a plant-wide basis and then monitor
their implementation.
5. Good computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
Desirable Education and Experience
1. Professional accreditation such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
Travel Requirements
Travel will be required to attend Company Corporate meetings and training
sessions, and attend professional/trade association meetings. Travel should average less than
10%.
