Electro-Mechanical Technician

Our TALON® robots are widely used in Iraq and Afghanistan to disable roadside bombs and our LAST® add-on Armor has been used to up-armor thousands of combat air and land vehicles since its debut in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Our Precision Air Drop System (PADS?) has been used on more than 600 missions and has dropped more than 5 million pounds of cargo since its debut in August 2006.

Foster-Miller/Qinetiq is currently recruiting a Senior Electromechanical Technician in the Electrical and Electronic Systems Group at our Waltham, MA location to report to the Electrical Engineering Manager.Job purpose: Work with engineers to transform designs into hardware which will include production of electro-mechanical assemblies, prototypes and fixtures. Candidate will participate in the production of military and commercial products. Candidate must be proficient using small mechanical and electrical assembly tools. Also the candidate must be capable of reading mechanical drawings and electrical wiring diagrams. Key responsibilities and accountabilities: -Manage the EES division laboratory & shop area.-Assembly of electro-mechanical systems.-Perform testing based formal test plans-Work closely with Engineering to build, test and debug prototypes systems.Required knowledge:Production -- Knowledge of assembly techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision mechanical systems.Clerical -- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records. Must have good working knowledge of procurement procedures and supply chain management.Required Skills:Assembly ? Must have experience in building complex first article devices and machines. Must be capable of modifying parts from redline prints using standard machine tools such as lathes and milling machines. Must have experience and be competent with small assembly tools.Drawings ? Must have experience reading mechanical and electrical drawings.Desired Skills:-Machine tools experience, Soldering, Welding, Sheet metal fabrication and Inspection-Retrieving detail designs drawings for fabrication/assembly from computerized document management system.-Knowledge of AutoCAD would be a plus.Qualifications: 5+ years experience in mechanical or electrical assembly.
