Electrical Engineering Patent Classifier supporting the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Harrisonburg, VA

SI International is at the front of the technology boom in the valley and we are seeking Associate Patent Classifiers to work at our new facility in Harrisonburg, VA.  SI was awarded a new prime contract to assist the USPTO with pre-grant publication classification services to support USPTO’s core mission of granting, examining and disseminating patents and trademarks. SI International is a rapidly growing, Top 100 Federal Prime IT Contractor according to Washington Technology (SI International was ranked #40 in 2005.)

 

In this position you will work independently to review and properly assign classification codes for new Patent Applications with the proper United States Patent Codes (USPC) and International Patent Codes (IPC) in accordance with all existing USPTO and International guidance/documentation. The major responsibilities are to analyze and apply complex, competing and often confusing guidance/statutes/references. You will research, analyze, interpret, assimilate, document and justify classifications based upon experience, expertise, education, training, and academic knowledge in assigned technical area; utilizing automated/web based tools, internet, and in house references. Participate as a member of a larger team based on similar scientific fields, as the resident expert for assigned area of expertise. You will also, collaborate on complex and / or difficult research and analysis coding functions.

Required Experience:

 

A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or experience in lieu of a degree within this discipline.
