Development Lab Technician
Job in Germantown 20876, Maryland US Job Responsibilities / Skills: Senior level technician for an Engineering lab that supports a communications satellite product research and development. Duties include:Installs new equipment and modifies current installations using various manual and power tools such as hand drill, wrenches, etc. Prepares equipment configurations prior to test by loading and configuring software utilities and applications to re-baseline test platforms. Maintains inventory of all major end items within the lab. Maintains warranty, service and repair records. Performs quality checks on newly delivered equipment to ensure proper operation. Verifies part numbers and quantities of test components received against bill of materials. Assembles components and equipment per assembly drawing; test procedure and verbal instructions provided. Conducts tests, records technical observations and compiles results. Troubleshoots and maintains equipment including servers, storage devices, and custom manufactured equipment. Experience/Skills Required:Knowledge and satellite and computer network systems principles.Knowledge of network wiring standards and principles to include single and multi mode fiber optic installation and maintenance principles.Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.Knowledge of basic electronic test equipment to include: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multi-meters, spectrum analyzers, fiber and cable test equipment.Must be able to read schematics, assembly and configuration drawings needed to establish and maintain test beds.Must be able to perform basic module level electronic tests to determine module functionality. Must be able to physically construct systems including Linux based servers and storage products and test fixtures in a rack system. Once constructed, required to and to configure and validate baseline functionality. Must know how to repair, fabricate, and test network and RF cables to include Cat-5, fiber, and patch and coaxial cables.Must posses an aptitude for managing equipment resources as well as maintaining equipment logistics.Must be able to handle/lift components and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
