This position is located in our VA, Chantilly facilityDatabase Administrator - Database Administrator. Review, develop, and design data models using standard diagramming techniques, in conjunction with application development teams; create logical data models and translate into physical database structures that integrate with existing or proposed database structures. Monitor relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; address a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications. Maintain development, test and production RDBMS environments. Monitor and maintain database security and database software, in cooperation with ISSMs. Provide advice to applications programmers in the effective use of database languages; advise on troubleshooting, exception processing needs and other data management issues. Maintain availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitate sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance. May evaluate and recommend testing and evaluation of new procedures, software, and hardware. Monitor and manage database backups, logs, and journals; install, maintain, and upgrade database software; restore and/or recover data as required. Create, procure and maintain various database related documents such as manuals and programmers' handbooks. May provide 24-hour on-call support. Experience interpreting data models and developing database structures; using standard diagramming techniques to design and develop computer data models; and implementing and troubleshooting programming changes and modifications. Knowledge of security Requirements for Agency databases, developing, documenting, and implementing backup and recovery procedures. Experience configuring, managing and maintaining the operation of complex relational databases. The person must also be familiar with UNIX and Windows operating systems. Customer is requesting a Database Adminstrator to provide the following: Perform day to day operations and maintenance of Oracle Database and Windows operating system. Manage accounts for network access, Oracle and Windows. Identify, analyze, define, and coordinate user, customer and stakeholder needs and translate them into technical requirements for databases. Assist business units in expressing their needs in terms that can be used to generate valid requirements. Act as an advisor to IT systems that want to use database to facilitate compliance with Agency best practices. Develop and assess system designs to validate them against expected technical parameters. Identify and manage dependencies with other systems and elements of the IT infrastructure. Record lessons learned; processes and procedures; metrics; and other pertinent quality topics in appropriate formats. Provide strategic and tactical planning and engineering support for security solutions, to include level of effort estimation. Performed required testing of security applications, appliances and systems, Identify architectural and technology risks with the potential to impact the project and Agency IT plans; develop goals and plans to mitigate risks. Help the project or program team prepare for Project Management Framework (PMF) control gates and Certification and Accreditation (C&A). Facilitate technical exchange meetings and working groups and other meetings as needed to train staff, build implementation and process recommendations. Additional ad hoc technical duties as assigned. MANDATORY SKILLS: Practical experience operating Oracle database.
