Controller - Lean Manufacturing Accountant

Our client, a rapidly growing Twin Cities based job shop seeks to add a strong Controller with knowledge of lean accounting principles.  You will be responsible for managing the financial, IT and human resource administration of our company. This includes but is not limited to providing management with financial data and analyses, handling a wide variety of operational and accounting issues and ensuring the proper operation of accounting, IT and human resource functions for the company.

Main Responsibilities:

- Develop and maintain systems associated with our lean manufacturing efforts including work center identification, material costs, labor hours by product, overhead allocation module, and in general, insure that timely and accurate production cycles and associated costs are established for all our products.

- Maintain and enforce all accounting procedures related to Operations including G/L maintenance, accruals, expense charge-off, journal entry preparation, A/P and payroll processing, capital equipment authorization and inventory control.

- Establish budgeting process and procedures for all functions.

- Coordinate development of department budgets with the appropriate managers.

- Provide supplementary data (volumes, head count, labor hours, materials costs, etc) to support budget preparation; consolidate all budgeting to provide detail and analysis as required by management.

- Develop other budgeting information as required, including material loss/scrap, inventory, obsolescence.

- Coordinate revenue forecasting via direct communication with sales and manufacturing representatives.

- Establish procedures for ongoing management of Net Terms with purchasing, suppliers and customers.

- Prepare and analyze all financial reports.

- Prepare and coordinate all appropriate material for quarterly reviews and annual audits of financial statements.

- Establish and/or maintain required systems and procedures, which monitor the effectiveness of operations.

- Perform audit function to assure policies are being followed; make recommendations for improvements and assist in implementing improvements or required changes.

- Develop key performance measurements for the company and establish tracking systems to assure each area is achieving its objectives.

Key Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field.

- Five (5) years of accountant/controller experience.

- Lean accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.  Experience in a job shop highly preferred.

 - Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (especially MS Excel and Access) and general accounting programs.

- Knowledge of Source 2000 and Vista preferred.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 - Demonstrated ability to analyze, propose and implement financial, IT and human resource policies and procedures for the company.

- Must be able to blend accounting knowledge and analytical skill with a sound understanding of lean manufacturing and product distribution process to assure the accounting systems are reporting and controlling what is actually happening at the company.
