That's why we're here. Communication & Network Systems Engineer 3/4 Position Description Systems Engineer will provide technical contributions in network communication systems. Support the definition of system architecture and perform technical analysis/evaluation of large military network communication systems. Evaluate, recommend and develop system requirements, architecture and alternatives for military wireless and wireline networks. Provide inputs to proposal preparation, customer briefings, and internal team meetings/briefings. Apply knowledge of RF, wireless, satellite and advanced communications systems along with systems engineering process to derive a best valued solution that satisfy customer needs. Recommend and implement appropriate courses of action in solving technical problems. When applicable, supports task execution and coordinates with technical efforts of other engineers on the team. Travel may be required to interface with customers and program related meetings, conferences, and briefings. Selected candidate will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for a Secret security clearance. Active Secret clearance is highly desirable. Preferred -Extensive ability to evaluate complex vehicles and systems from a multitude of perspectives. Includes the ability to apply figures of merit and integrated optimization tools. Ability to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies to evaluate configuration alternatives for functional and spatial integration. [ + ] Network Systems Basic - Complete knowledge of network communication concepts, principles and architectures, associated with network planning, design, integration and maintenance. End-to-end knowledge of network transport technologies, systems, environments, services, protocols, performance monitoring and diagnostic analysis. Preferred -Exercises extensive engineering judgment in developing appropriate decisions considering decision criteria, implications, and possible consequences, to ensure product design integrity. Demonstrates understanding of the applicable scientific and engineering knowledge and routinely includes company-wide subject matter experts to obtain good information for the engineering decision-making process. [ + ] Systems Design Engr Principles Basic - Complete knowledge of systems design and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems and sub-systems. Preferred -Extensive, specialized knowledge of network communication concepts, principles and architectures, associated with network planning, design, integration and maintenance. End-to-end knowledge of network transport technologies, systems, environments, services, protocols, performance monitoring and diagnostic analysis. [ + ] Systems Trade Studies Basic - Complete knowledge of trade study process (e.g., benchmarking, best value). Preferred -Extensive, specialized knowledge of systems design and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems and sub-systems. Education and/or Experience Level 3 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 4 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information Experience with military communications systems, wireless and wired network protocols, and familiarity with network security concepts. Experience in the following technologies is highly desirable: JTRS, SCA, SDR, OOA/OOD, Internetworking technologies (routing, QoS, network management), mobile wireless technologies (TDMA, DSP algorithms, MAC/Link Protocols, Wireless LAN, etc.), DSP, CORBA, UML (especially using Rational Rose) and component based software. Also highly desirable is a working knowledge of real time embedded development, C & C++. Specification writing, systems architecture design experience, and knowledge of systems engineering processes, tools and techniques (CMM, IPPD, and etc.) are necessary.
