GKN is a global engineering and manufacturing company focused on the automotive and aerospace industries with operations in more than thirty countries and employs 43,000 people in its subsidiaries.  The St. Louis site mission is to delight the customer through innovative and best value global aerospace solutions.  We provide our customers unbiased design and development support in metals, composites and RTM assemblies to meet cost and performance objectives as well as manufacturing capabilities to meet those objectives.  We are currently seeking a Buyer for our St. Louis Site.

 Job Purpose

 

To conduct and manage the processes for obtaining goods and services for the company.  To serve as agent for the company in managing supplier relationships and activities.

 Principal Accountabilities

 

1)  Act as an authorized agent of the company with responsibility for managing all supplier-related activities and authority to commit company resources through contracts and agreements. 

 

2)  Manage supplier performance and ensures satisfactory contract completion and closure. 

 

3)  Develop and integrate requirements, develops requests for quotations and proposals, analyzes supplier responses, negotiates and awards contracts, and manages post-award supplier activities.

 

4)  Interface with internal and external customers and suppliers.

 

5)  Develop and guide others in the development of procurement plans related to cost, schedule, quality, delivery, terms and conditions. 

 

6)  Effectively utilize supply chain management tools.

 

7)  Serve on multifunctional teams to define quality, delivery and performance standards. 

 

8)  Develop and maintain long-term relationships with vendors and contractors to ensure a high quality, reliable source of supplies and information.

 

9)  Ensure that planning decisions from external customers and suppliers are incorporated to reduce material and product variability.

 

10)  Develop and implements strategies to leverage the optimum prices and delivery schedules.  Ensure the appropriate negotiation of lead times and price in keeping with these strategies.

 

11)  Perform all duties in compliance with Company Policies and Procedures and applicable FAR and DFAR provisions.

 

12)  Act as a mentor and trainer for Buyer I personnel as assigned.

Education 

BS/BA in Business Administration or other relevant discipline.

 Experience and Qualifications 

Three or more years of experience in procurement and/or material control in a manufacturing environment.  Working knowledge of purchasing systems and procedures required. Working knowledge of DFAR and FAR is highly desired.  Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, etc. required. 

Strong personal computer skills (including word processing and spreadsheet software skills) and strong grounding in ERP systems and software are required.
