Associate Software Design Engineer

Bachelors degree in technical field, with computer science or software development background.  Experience: 2-5 years in software development Systems: Linux/Unix Languages: C or C++ or Java (required) Shell Scripting/Perl (nice to have) JSAF experience a plus Distributed Simulation/HLA experience a plus Modeling & Simulation experience/development a plus. Security:   Able to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance. On-site support required.  Interface with customers on a daily basis. Alion Science and Technology is looking for a Software Engineer to support modeling and simulation development in a cutting edge environment supporting the Joint National Training Capability (JNTC).  The candidate will be working with a team of developers and subject matter experts to develop, enhance, integrate, and support Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF) and its associated suite of tools.  JSAF is a High Level Architecture (HLA) compliant simulation system and is the primary naval simulation system in the Joint Live Virtual Constructive (JLVC) Federation.  The JLVC federation is comprised of several distributed simulation systems used to support Joint Training.  The team is also responsible for integrating Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) systems into the JLVC. You will be involved in each phase of software development including design, development, testing, debugging, and documentation.  Developers are expected to use current guidelines and standards.  Primary development is done on Red Hat Linux platforms using C, C++ and Java.  Shell scripting is used to help automate tasks and query information.  Subversion is the primary revision control system,. This is an on-site position at the Joint War Fighting Center (JWFC), in Suffolk, VA.  The position requires daily interaction with developers inside and outside of the immediate team to integrate, debug, and resolve issues quickly.  There may also be a requirement to work non-traditional hours to support remote sites around the world.
