Ares Instrument Unit Avionics (IUA) Project Engineer 6 Position Description The position is with the Ares program in support of the Upper Stage (US) and Instrumentation Unit (IU) contracts with NASA. The Boeing team is responsible for design support to NASA and manufacturing and assembly of the Upper Stage structure and avionics systems. The Project Engineer (PE) will take a lead role in providing disciplined Change Management, Project Engineering, and Change Integration for the Ares program. The PE will identify and provide resolution to programmatic issues relating to the integration and deployment of Ares deliverables. Responsibilities include horizontal and vertical integration of baseline change requirements; identification of integration issues and provision of resolutions; identification of risks and opportunities and the development of mitigation plans; system-level analysis of program change requests and the identification and resolution of program impacts to Integrated Project Teams (IPT); resolution of integration issues and actions on behalf of the Technical Review Board (TRB) and the Change Control Board (CCB); and support of test activities in the resolution of integration issues. The PE will be responsible for implementing disciplined program technical and programmatic baseline management. This position has a critical interface with key IPT personnel, requiring daily contact and the ability to discuss difficult subjects in an open and productive manner. Candidate must possess the ability to integrate across all program teams to promote efficient and effective execution of the program. Excellent communications, program management skills, ability to effectively build teams, integrate across teams/disciplines, and plan/execute large, complex tasks are paramount to success in this position. [ + ] Project Management Recognized industry expertise in creating comprehensive multi-tiered project schedules for extremely complicated and significant projects. Directs and manages the most complex project schedules requiring interfacing with multi regional or international activities. Independently identifies project resource requirements, integrates and directs multi project elements into a single collective overall project plan. Collaborates with others on the most complex projects assigned. As an enterprise role model, demonstrates ability to direct, delegate and ensure performance of assigned responsibilities and tasks as a project team leader in support of enterprise wide or extremely complex large-scale projects. Mentors senior project leaders to help them identify and resolve issues to ensure successful completion of projects. Technical [ + ] Boeing Knowledge Highly advanced/expert knowledge of Boeing's organizations, processes, program plans, policies and procedures, and products required to effectively perform functional responsibilities of the occupation. [ + ] Budget Management Highly advanced/expert knowledge of budget management principles and practices. [ + ] Engr Knowledge & Comprehension Highly advanced knowledge of various engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and systems. The ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables. [ + ] Product Knowledge Highly advanced, expert knowledge of product types (e.g., aircraft, missiles, rotorcraft; history and in production; commercial and military) operational usage and environment and product history. [ + ] Proj Management Theory/Concept Highly advanced, expert knowledge of Project Management theory, concepts and principles (e.g. theory of constraints, critical path methodology, project risk management, triple constraints, project scope management, project management lifecycle etc.) contained in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK ? Guide). [ + ] Project Leadership Highly advanced, expert ability to direct, delegate, and ensure performance of assigned responsibilities and tasks as a project team leader in support of enterprise wide and/or extremely complex large-scale projects. Highly advanced, expert ability to identify and resolve any issues to ensure the successful completion of the project. Education and/or Experience Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 20 or more years' experience, Master's with 18 or more years' experience or PhD with 15 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information US citizenship required. This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Experience on human spaceflight development programs and/or booster vehicle programs. Knowledge of NASA policies, procedures and processes.
