Under general supervision, the Applications Software Programmer develops, codes, tests, and debugs new software and makes enhancements to existing software. Works with the technical staff to resolve software incompatibilities and provides suggestions for improvements to software products. May assist in the development of software user manuals. Maintains an awareness of new software developments and technology. This position will assist in the management of software systems (application systems, data files, databases, and interfaces) throughout the life cycle from initial conception and planning, through design and development, to maintenance, improvement, and conversion. The life cycle can also include studies related to information systems planning as well as the sizing and designing of computer systems on which new or existing software will operate. Typical tasks include but are not limited to:. Project planning and oversight. Perform software tool evaluations (e.g., computer-aided software engineering tools). Evaluate commercial-off-the shelf (COTS) and Government-off-the-shelf (GOTS) software. Evaluate database management systems. Software requirements analyses. Software design and Database design. Software implementation and unit testing. Unit integration and testing. Functional component testing. Systems qualification testing. Model, predict, and test software performance. Modify/adapt COTS/GOTS software. Perform configuration management and change control QualificationsRequired Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must and proficiency with MS Office required. Experience operating in Windows XP/2003 environment highly desired. Experience desired in any one of the primary OS and SW applications include: MS Exchange 2003, SQL Server 2003, MS Visual Studio .NET, Cognos 7, or Oracle 9i/10g. Required Experience: - This position requires a Bachelors degree and 3 years of progressive IT experience including at least one (1) project in one or more of the following technical areas: software engineering, communications, and system integration.- U.S. Citizenship is required. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Secret level.
